A/C Compressor cuts out

Hello,

I have an ''04 RX8 6-Speed with 38K miles.

I am having a situation where my A/C compressor seems to cut out randomly. I will have no problems for 1 week, then one day when I start the car the compressor does not run and I am blowing hot air! The next time I start the car (later in the day), the compressor is working fine and blowing cold air again. This is not a freon issue, since I would expect to have a drop over time on the cooling - not this on/off issue.

Has anyone experienced this? I am currently out-of-warrenty, so I know that bringing this issue in for service will cost me.

Regards, Rob

Sounds like you need a new AC computer. They had to replace mine.

Try making sure the temperature gauge is all the way on cold . Give it a little nudge past where it normally stops. That works for me.

Your simple fix works!

Pin8,

I tried that and it works! Did you replace your **** as a result of this? Is there a way to make an adjustment to the **** to correct the problem?

Regards, Rob

I didn't replace the ****. I got that idea from another thread here. I don't know if you can adjust the **** but if your still under warranty I think that they should replace unit for you. It seems that has been done for others here.

Unfortunately, I am out of warrenty. That is why I am trying to narrow this down since I will make the repair myself.

I belive yours may be normal. do a search and you will find the cabin is too hot from the engine and tranny for the A/C to compensate.
