Exclamation Buying used Mazda 2007 rx8~help.

Hello all,

I've been fond of the forign types of cars, but I've only owned Ford and Buick. I've been shopping around my local area here and found a dealership with a Mazda RX-8
http://www.dorschfordkia.com/invento...E173540110002/

I've spoke to several of my friends whom are now envious if i do get this car.. and also people that are more inclined to mechanical aspects. I've even spoke to one of my bank relashinship managers. I've never droven a stick shift before but everyone says, You'll be hooked once you do. I'm highly unsure of myself if i should buy this or not. I've saw different posts on the expensive costs that it keeps to be updated. Red lining it at 9RPM's and continuing to pour oil into it along with cold start warm ups etc. So I'd like to know form all of you, If i should Pursue a Used car or find something in the same price range brand new with warranty etc. As per what my father told me before giving a final Descion on this wonderful piece of art.

That link says its a 2004. If that's a 2004, $13k is way too much for it. If you can talk them down to 10 - 10.5, it's worth it. It's a 2004 and going to be out of the 8 year drivetrain warranty very soon. 44k miles isn't really enough to know if that engine is going to last to 100k+ or not. If you can get an extended or aftermarket warranty on the drivetrain, and talk the base price down to 10.5, it would probably be worth it.

I've been reading alot of the form posts and things happen more to this car then anything i've ever driven or heard about. Now im slightly concerned that if i do talk the base price down, Just to buy it on top of learning how to drive stick from a friend... Is it even worth it going though this much of a head ache considering you need to red line it and doo alllll this other stuff just to keep a car in shape.

If you love the car like we do, "all those things" are enjoyable things to do. The car is high maintenance, but very worth it if it fits you. If you're that worried about it, I would probably pass if I were you.

Yea you sound like you dont even want to redline the car each day, and thats one of the major reasons to buy this car because its just plain fun to drive like that. If you plan to baby it when you drive it and not really get the rpm's up there then get a different car because you will have engine problems.

+1 to what they say.

If "all that work" is something that doesn't appeal to you, then move to a different car, not this one.

My New and Potential Owner's thread, in case you haven't seen it. Should answer alot of your apparent questions that we see lurking and unasked...https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-forum-197/new-potential-owners-start-here-202454/

...continuing to pour oil into it...
Yeah. A quart every couple of thousand miles. It's an unending life consuming chore.

RIWWP's thread should debunk the myths about this car, and also bunk the truths. But you've got to realize that you're looking at a 7 year old sports car. You should do that only if it really cries out to you.

As far as new vs used goes...years ago I vowed that I would never buy a used car again. And that was back when the warranty on new cars was worthless, so it wasn't even the security issue. It was not wanting to deal with a car that someone else had beat to s*** and didn't want any more. But that's a personal preference. Go for whatever makes you comfortable and excited.
