Buying my first RX-8 This week!!!! (Most Likely)
Hi all,
I have been looking around for a bit and have decided the 8 might be the car for me. The only question I have is size, any 6' 4" fellas in here that fit well?
I am going to test drive one at the end of this week and am super pumped about it.
It's a 2006 6speed MT with 24k miles with the sport and appearance package in phantom blue. What do you all feel would be a good price given that info?
Anyone have anything I should look out for or do before I head to check it out?
I have read through most of the service bulletins and quite a few of the articles on the forums already but figured the members here are the best source of info.
Thanks,
J

The Professor
Welcome!
I think that that model and mileage should net you around 16-19K depending on condition.
Check out the FAQ https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/new-rx8-owner-faq-1-25-09-a-163824/
other than that, just make sure everythings on the up-and-up reguarding how the engine sounds and feels, power delivery should be smooth and firm all the way to 9K, but the car is rather torqueless from 1-4K, which makes for a smooth ride around town I might add.

Thanks for writing that up staticlag, it was one of the first things I read here and part of the reason I decided to register as a member.
Bigbacon, is there a set of vin numbers associated with the paint color somewhere? I was looking online and could find decoders that gave me basic info, but nothing that had the color.

ask for a compression test on the engine, check that the taillights dont have water inside and make sure to reweld the clutch pedal assembly they snap off pretty easy, just my 2 cents.

In 2007 they went to Stormy Blue Mica - a beautiful dark blue. My 08 Miata was that color.
Winning Blue:
Phantom Blue:
Stormy Blue:
Price-wise, look to get below $15k. I just got an '07 with 29,xxx on the odometer and I paid $14,950 + TTL (around $15,200 OTD).
Also - spend $125 and have a local Mazda dealer do an inspection. When you're looking used it's well worth the expense and time, IMHO.

So I buy the 2006 rx8 touring. On the way hope the steering wheel starts pulling all the way to the left. When I park the car, turn the wheel all the way to the right, it spins all the way back to the left fast.. WHILE PARKED. The car is now sitting at the mazda dealer 40 miles from where I bought it and 40 miles from my moms. Anyone have this happen before?????
