Borla exhaust?

I just bought a used RX-8 this weekend (boy do I feel sorry for the poor bastard whose wife made him trade it in for a Kia SUV because they were having a kid). In addition to a few cosmetic mods (clear turn signals) the car has a Borla exhaust. It is a little loud / ricer sounding for my taste and I am curious to know if anyone has any hard data as far as performance gains with this exhaust.

heh. the rx-8 works well with kids.

he should have traded in the wife.

the borla does make some sound, if you don't like it, a swap with a stock exhaust will make the car whisper quiet. As Phlash69 said, I'm sure you will be able to find someone to swap with, and you can likely make $500 while you're at it.

I know it works well with kids because I bought it because I have one Otherwise I probably would have gotten the 350Z instead (I am a former 300ZX owner).

It does make some sound, what I am really interested in is, what am I getting for this? If it's a negligible performance gain, I'm not interested in hearing the noise... but if I really get something out of it, it's not so obnoxiously loud that I can't deal.

Wow, that RX8 owner needed to grow a pair. I don't know how he was able to knock her up. Should have kept it in his pants.

RX8 for Kia ???????????????????????????????????????????

twisty, it should give 2-6 hp in the 6,000 rpm and up range. The numbers are hard to come by as no one can even dyno the stock car properly.

Racing Beat dynoed several exhaust, and found that most give a few hp, and some even lost power. In general you are looking at about 2-5 hp max. If you want an exhaust that is slightly quieter and still gives you some increase in hp. Look at Mazda Speed.
