Bogging

Hi Guys/Gals, have to include all these days.
I just bought a new 2010 RX8-R3 form the dealer here in Ontario Canada, just put on the 1st 2100 km and have notice that there is bogging 1st and 2nd gear just when cold, I have made dealer appointment to look into this but thought I would ask here for your thoughts.

Cold engines don't like to be revved high.
As a matter of fact, the engine protects itself by NOT letting you rev past (I think) 4500rpm when cold.
Also, the fluids are still warming up, so they're pretty sluggish at first start...

Not sure what you mean 3 of 3 lights on tach
cold meaning first start of the day or even after cool down.
No problems at temprature

On models 2009-2011 you will notice when you turn on the car there are 3 "bars" located within the tach. One that ranges from like 5-7 , on that goes from 7-9, and 9 - 10. The later models will actually prevent you from revving too high on a cold motor. The bogging that you are experiencing may be the engine telling you to stop slamming on the gas when it's cold.

I understand, when I told the dealer about what was happening they said nothing about cold starts.
So this is more like a cold rev limiter to protect the engine.

Be very careful when the engine is cold, 90% of the wear are done on cold engine, let it idle 30 sec. or so then drive away and keep it low until the tach bars goes away, even when its 2/3 bars, keep it under 4000rpm, and once its shows that its heated up, wait another 2-3 mins before slaming it.

you will thank me later

How high were you revving it when it was cold or before it got up to normal temp? Just kinda curious.

Ah, evidence that this rev limiter was a good idea.

Are you really trying to tell us that you have never noticed the red lights on the tachometer when you first start the car cold, that hover just about the 5k through 10k rpm zone?

You have never once noticed the light vanish above the 5k through 7500 range after you have driven the car for a minute or two?

And you never noticed the light vanish above the 7500 to 9k rpm range after several minutes of driving, when the coolant temp gauge is in the middle of its range?

Not only this, but you never looked in the owners manual and read about this feature, nor did your dealer mention this to you at the time that you bought it brand new from their dealer?

How could you possibly have had all this happen?
I knew all about this before I first stepped into the car dealer, and looked at the car for the very first time, and watched it happen during my various test drives, along with my sales people mentioning it to me, and reading about it in the owners manual (online, and physical, at that).

Here's a better question:

Have you popped the hood and checked the oil level yet in the 2100 km's that you've driven your car? If not, I bet you're just about unreadable on the dipstick at this point.

BC.

Yes I have noticed the red lights but more like rev limit bars.
No the dealer did not explain this.
And yes i do check the oil on a regular bassis.
I have read the manual.
But I do spend more time watching the road than watching the tach reach the red line before each shift.
It has only happened a couple times thats why I asked the question.
Have you had a bad day
