Lightning Yellow

Well, I finally got to see the Lightning Yellow today, when the two touring RX-8's came through Austin. The yellow was my second choice, but yellow can be such a subjective color - it doesn't take much to go from gorgeous to gross.

Anyway, I'm here to tell you that the Lightning Yellow looks great! It's a little lighter than the Vivid Yellow of the P5 (and my wife's '02 Miata), but it didn't seem as pale as the Lexus 300.

I took several photos which I'll upload when I get home tonight. Unfortunately I was unable to get it alongside a Vivid Yellow for comparison purposes, and it was parked in the shade, but hopefully they'll help folks who are unsure of the color.

Those that have chosen Lightning Yellow will not be disappointed!

By the way, eccles, thanks for your great pictures of the Winning Blue from the Houston Rev-It Up. Those are the best pictures of the blue 8 I've seen anywhere. I chopped up and zoomed in on the one with the front angle sitting in front of the silver Mazda pickup, and have used it as my wallpaper at home & work for the last few months. Great pictures!

What model of digital camera did you use for those?

Glad you like 'em! I use a Sony Cybershot DSC-P5: 3.1Mpixels and small enough to pop in my pocket. Love it.

Car in Austin? Can I see?

Hi there,
I've got a lighting yellow car on order at Beasley North. I see that there are some Yellow cars in town today? Any way I can get a peek at them? I'd like to see what I bought :-)

Heck, maybe one is my car?? (dreaming) it was built on 6/13 but with the backlog, I have no idea if it made it or not. (VIN JM1FE173840103657)

Sorry dude, they've left town already. Watch this space for some photos later this evening.

Photos are up

The shots I took this morning are now posted. The color balance was a little off because it was parked in the shade, so I've adjusted it a tad to bring the yellow back to how I remember it. (I took out 6% blue and 4% green, if anyone feels the need to adjust them back to the original.)

Enjoy!

It amazes me how clean that car is for the amount of miles that have been put in on it. Just incredible!!!!

I think every dealer that they stop at, gives them a wash and quick detail. When I arrived this morning, they had the Nordic Green under the hose and the Lightning Yellow in the PD bay. They were also busy removing the Mazda South licence plate frames and replacing them with Roger Beasley frames. ( I'm sure they lasted until about noon when they were probably replaced by Premiere Mazda frames.)

That is the exact reason that I didn't order the yellow. I was scared that it was going to look like the mustard IS300 yellow.

I ordered the Titanium gray and about two months later I saw the awesome pics on the mazda.co.jp sight.

Is this how it looked?:

If so I'm going to be . I love yellow but only "pure" yellows like the picture above. Looks like I jumped the gun with my color choice of titanium.

Now, compare that to the yellow in "color selector" on the Mazdausa site:

That's the yellow I didn't want. It was enough to scare me off. I'm going to be disappointed if I can't somehow get the yellow now.

Anyone want to trade Yell for Tit?

For me, it was yellow or titanium... in the end I went for the more subtle color.

I'm guessing that I would get more tickets in a conspicuous yellow car.:p

Good news,

I searched my dealer's inventory and I pulled up a yellow car that had almost exactly the same features as mine from the third allocation. (thanks RX-nut)

I then gave the number to Ifubar2000 and it showed that it was finished on Wednesday in Japan. So I would lose about a month if I switched, but no big deal. (thanks Ifubar2000)

I called my salesmanager and made his life real easy. I said, "You have a yellow car coming in about a month or so with vin number ending in XXXX. I would like to switch to it if possible." Jeff said, "no one has it reserved. Its yours." (thanks Jeff)

So with some first hand experience from other forum members and their willingest to share the info. I am going to get the birght yellow that I always wanted in the first place. (thanks eccles)

Thanks forum,

-Mr. Wigggles

Ps. eccles, you better be right about the color.

As they say in legal circles, "All care but no responsibility taken."

Seriously though, congratulations, and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

I don't know, but just assumed all cars were clear coated now. Are there some colors that aren't?
