black or titanium?
I can't make a decision between those two!!
titanium just doesn't give me the fresh new car look.
But I like it.... and it'll look good after some mod.
Black gives me the fresh new car look and I also like it.
AND it'll look good after some mod as well.
ARG!!!
I can't make a decision between those two colors!!

There are more Ti Gray out there (I have one) but this is partially because the scratches and rock chips don't show up as easily. If you want a more rare Ti Gray then look at the red leather. I was going to order one with red leather but it would've taken about 2 months to get it to the US. I decided to take a better deal on one that was in the harbour but not delivered yet with black leather. Seems like this is the most popular and I really like the red leather.

The 8 looks it's best in Titanium. No other color shows off it's lines better. It doesn't need a bunch of mods to look it's best. Just a spoiler and some rotary accents and it is perfection.

Black cars look better when they are clean.
I got Titanium because it doesn't show dirt as much.
Up to you, but sounds like you like the black one more, go for it!

I traded a black 02 Crown Vic Sport in for the 04 Titanium 8.
Black sucks. Hard to keep clean, shows every imperfection, and gets hotter than hell.
The AC in the 8 leaves a lot to be desired and I would think with the black it is going to be even worse.
You know, they are replacing the Yellow with white this year... That should look really good on the 8.

Stuck in a love triangle
Until Isee a white in person Titanium will remain favorite color. I even like itbetter than the dark blue they have in Japan. If youdo go w/black make sureyou put on clear corners.

Where I live one of the big concerns is pollen. That green crap gets EVERYWHERE!!! On Silver and Gray it shows up less. On black it is pure evil.
The green dust does not look as bad on blue either. But it looks terrible on the dark green cars.

First I was into red, but after test driving it, I found the constant sight of the red hood disturbing.
The remaining favorites were black and titanium.
Titanium is a very good color, but black has one big advatage: It covers the seams of the car's body almost perfectly (and the RX-8 has lots of seams), showing its form in perfection.
Another point, but that's personal taste, was that I wanted the red and black interior, because it's much more vivid and emphasizes the great interior.
Backdraws with black are, as already mentioned, the need to clean the car to make it shine (but then it really shines) and the heating up, which is secondary if you can park the car in a garage and besides, you've got a fine working AC.
Both colors are very elegant and you can't go wrong with either of them. To maximize elegance, I'd take black, but titanium is the better compromise and fits the form very well too.

I guess I am biased because I just bought one in black yesterday...;-) The RX-8 looks great in both. I prefer the black slightly, but I definitely agree that it shows *everything*. I have had the car for one day, and pollen (and Cicadas) have already started to dirty it up... and there is no hiding any of it. The grey should cover pollen and other things better.

Both are great colours.
most of the pros and cons have been recited for both colours. I would also like to add that nice as it is, Black seems to hide the lines of the car, which IMO is not good becasue the lines are great.
Personally I'm on the side of Titanium... its a colour that looks sophisticated yet sporty.... Further, it doesn't hide the lines of the car either.
IMHO, Ti with the black/tan brown leather interior.... talk about 007 appeal.

I like both colors, but chose black.
I know it's a pain to keep clean, but I told myself I don't deserve an 8 unless I plan to obsess over it and keep it perfect. It's as if with black, I can't afford to let it go, to ever forget what a fantastic machine it is. It deserves obsessive attention.
And the wheels and silver accent package look fantastic against black.

sadly, i noticed a scratch AND a rock chip on my hood today after washing my TI Grey. they're small but noitceable. I'll have them touched up...
The TI doesnt show dirt as much as the black either but both colors are impressive on the RX-8.

Btw, I don't know how it is in the US, but here metallic colors cost 900 € in addition to the base price. So can you spend the difference on looks (rotary accent, strakes, whatever) if you choose black.

IMHO, titanium gray does the best job of giving the car a more subtle look. I think the car is a little over-styled, with too many folds in the sheet metal, like the pontoon fenders and the rotary symbol that is part of the hood. The titanium gray melds these surfaces together best, again, IMHO.
Personally, I don't need a rotor shape stamped into my hood, rotors in my headrests, and a rotor shaped shifter. Just turn the car on and you know it's a rotary. The rotary accents on the center line of the front and rear fascias actually don't look too bad and are pretty subtle.
(Anyone else notice how the folds of the rotary accent of the hood collect dirt really well? Or, how when it rains or if you've just washed the car and not towelled it off, water beads collect, form two big blobs on the left and right side of the rotor and bounce around in the creases! I've gotten up to 95mph trying to get those blobs to blow off!)
While I do like the 8's over-all shape, I wish the design was less busy. Have to give kudos to the 350Z for looking more like it was carved from billet - nothing but smooth surfaces on that car.
My first RX, an '84 GSL-SE, was white with a red interior. That series was aesthetically very clean - the last couple of years of production they smoothed out the front and rear ends and the car was close to perfect.
With the 8 I think Mazda went overboard with the styling. Of course, the "look at me crowd" will probably disagree. I didn't buy the car in order to get attention. I bought it for its combination of driving qualities and practicality.
From reading the posts here I think there are two somewhat disparate groups that make up a majority of 8 drivers: Younger, mod-friendly folks who want to be noticed when they drive a car, and older types who either had a rotormotor car years ago, or just appreciate the individuality of the 8 and aren't looking for attention. It's interesting that Mazda was able to design a car that appeals to both types.

I think it depends on your point of view.
If some old people still might want attention on their cars.
Well I'm only 21 years old, so I might not know that but I don't think the 8 is over-styled to the point it looks any worse than Z.
I think 8 is the best looking car ever made in $30,000 range.

I think the 8 looks phantastic for its simple design.
Being 36 some people may consider me old (doesn't feel much different than 26 though) and what I want from a car is the same what I want from other things I buy: I want something that I'm glad to own every single day. I like innovative things with a considerable amount of quality. I like good engineering. And of course I enjoy it, if others like the car as well and I've rarely seen a car get so much appreciation as the 8 does.
Uhm, back on topic: The simple design of course is enhanced by black, though I guess I stated this before ...
