Black CHerry paint..
hey guys..im new to this forum and actually new to rotary engines.. ive been thinking about purchasing an RX-8 since january...and now this coming january ill have enough to afford one..however... i wanted black on black..until i saw this black cherry paint.. its unique and not alot of ppl have it..but when i went to the dealership to discuss it he said i cant get it.. and it isnt in the RX-8 brocure either.. is this paint job specific to shinka editions only? or is it just so rare that i cnat get one unless i build it and get it right off the factory line?
also..im thinkin about trying to add the mazdaspeed flywheel and exhaust ..i know there was a significant change to the performance of the car with the flywheel..but how about the exhaust? any noticable power gains or a noticable change in the sound ? if somenoe could help me out it woudl be great... thanks =]

Yes, the Black Cherry was limited to something like 1,200 cars. But I'm sure you could fine a nice used one for sale. "2005 Shinka" is what you're looking for. Besides the Black Cherry paint, they also came with a light, cream colored ("Parchment") leather interior and a few other goodies. Here's more info:

(There are 2006 Shinkas, too, available in several colors—but the Black Cherry is only on the '05 Shinka, which came in Black Cherry only.)

just remember.. the black cherry mica, being so rare is a bit more expensive, 5k more to be exact. Gotta ask yourself if your gonna pay an xtra 5k for the paintjob, me personally would not do it, but if you like it enough, definitely wait for a used 1 somewhere.

$5k more for the paint job? Umm, that is way off and totally wrong. I have an 06 Mazdaspeed 6 in Black Cherry Mica, and I could have gotten any color I wanted, same price, it didn't matter. The Shinka was a fully loaded GT, with some interior/mild suspension upgrades (except Navi) model, which is why it was more expensive then your base RX8. The paint itself didn't cause the price increase. You had to take the total package, and the paint job was used to validate it's uniqueness, but it's not a more expensive paint job. They switched the color to the MS6 for 2006, but they never charged you for it, because they didn't add anything else to the car. Not sure where you got that $5k figure from, but I'll assume you were comparing a base RX8 with a GT Shinka, which has $5000 worth of options on it.

The 2005 Shinka is definitely the class of the RX8 line-up. The BCM paint and the Light Parchement leather (among other things) take the RX8 up-market a few notches. I always had people checking out my car everywhere I stopped. Always comments at the gas stations.

Yes, I get the feeling people assume it's a $50-60K car. When it's clean. (When it's dirty… not. It's kinda like that Seinfeld episode where Jerry was dating this girl who looked gorgeous in some light and horrendous in others.)

Agreed! I have the 2005 Shinka as well, love the color especially in the sun, it kind of has this light glitter effect that looks awesome. Also the parchment leather interior is very classy. Glad that I ended up with one.
