One time I had two friends with me who were both riding in an rx8 for the first time. They asked what the 8 was known for. Telling them the car is probably most known for its great handling, the one in the back murmured, "yeah right, this thing prob turns worse than a mustang." Fueled by sudden anger, I took the next "slight" right turn at about 65 mph.
The car over-steered so much my faithless friend in the backseat was almost ahead of me.

Was this guy just playing with everyone? Seems like he should have passed you twice in that time frame. Took him like 8 turns to over take that Lotus.

 

I have a story about my Classic Mustang. I was coming back from the gym with a friend and he told me to punch it on an off-ramp. I came around the last turn at WOT, I had about a 1/4 mile straight that led to an intersection that was NOT a through intersection. As I let off the gas and hit the brakes my brake line snapped and I had nothing. I looked up and the light turned red. JUST as the cars waiting started to go I came flying in sideways just fast enough to not slam into the median. I remember slamming the shifter into park (3 speed AT) and it doing nothing but making noise. I cut the wheel as hard as I could and smoke was pouring over my hood and trunk as I came to a halt. I made it home by pumping the brakes and going about 10 mph (I was a few blocks away).

 

This was an HPDE event, passing anywhere is only for the instructor group. The group I was running in can only pass with a point-by and only on certain parts of the track. That said it was cool, even with a full helmet on the thing was very loud. There is a market for older race cars but there are few places where you can drive a 10 year old F1 car. HPDE brings out a varied selection of cars.

Pulling out of my driveway. Once I hop in my 8, playtime is over, because before I can even enjoy driving, I have to pull out of the driveway. This takes extreme patience, precision, and *****. Over time I have mastered the art of pulling out of my driveway and can do so in roughly 25 seconds if I'm feeling like showing off.

Nothing else can compare. Why speed? Why drift? Why do any of that, when I can get an equivalent burst of adrenaline simply by attempting to pull out of my driveway. I almost thought I scraped last week, but it was the little mud flap, not the bumper. I guess that's still scraping though, right?

 

First day I bought the car I went driving through some hilly back roads I wasn't very familiar with. Unfamiliar roads and an unfamiliar car don't make very good bed fellows, especially when you're trying to have a little fun. In my defense, I had just bought the car and wanted to see what it could do. I crested a small hill and entered a totally blind and unmarked 90 degree curve at about 3X what the posted speed should have been. I immediately thought 'congratulations dumbass, you just totaled your new car'. I didn't have time to do anything other than brake a little and go easy on the wheel. I thought for sure I was heading for the ditch, but it was as if the hand of god reached down, turned the car the requisite 90 degrees, and sent me on my merry way. I don't even remember the tires squealing. That's when I knew I found a keeper.

That's the best I've got that I can blame myself for in the RX-8, but one thing that gets me every time is when someone almost hits me. The sound of squealing tires coming up on my rear end while I'm at a light instantly makes my bowels want to release.

 

Second day I had the car: sideways at +/-60 in a 25. First autocross: I'm going through a slalom when my passenger riding shotgun tells me to slow down. For that, I must speed up ended up off the course and in the dirt. And, of course, endlessly drifting on- and off-ramps. Love the 8.

 

Roebling in Georgia. First HDPE event ever, first day, second session.

Hit end of straight at 125, hit brakes, turned right. Halfway between 1 & 2 there is an M3 poking around the track looking for an apex he thought he might have missed. To put it in perspective, I had picked the right rear wheel to hit as I thought hitting the door, with the screaming instructor behind it, was uncool. Besides, if anything happened to me, I wanted that instructor alive to finish him off (amazing how that whole time slows down thing works,).

We missed, but not by much. You lose a lot of speed with feet on the brake petal jumping up and down, screaming helps too.

The guy went into turn 1 as I passed the timing tower, that is 3/8 mile head start.

I can still see that damn car.

Does adrenaline come out brown?

 

going up a steep (i scraped the front a little as it started to get steep quick) gravel driveway that traverses a hill and only wider than the car by 6 inches a side. drop off left, rock wall right. Oh and it was about midnight with no moon and foggy as all hell.

My family had rented a cabin for the weekend in Hocking Hills and my wife and I were the last to arrive. When i went back down it in the morning, i decided that I wouldn't have even tried had i seen it for the first time in the day light. Pot holes and ruts everywhere, narrow as all hell and steep.

 

Too many to list here after 5yrs of ownership . But I have to say one of the most satisfying was after I fitted the turbo when a smartass in a 350z pulled beside me and wanted a go .
The destruction was so total that it made me feel all warm and fuzzy LOL .

Try driving an RX8 pissed off; it's a religious experience. You'll get the biggest adrenaline rush when you finally realize how fast you're taking free off-ramps.
