After reading other rebuild threads I'm very disappointed that my compression numbers are only around 7s with a brand new engine.

I would've expected much higher numbers.
I'm wondering if the obvious mishandling of the engine did in fact damage it.
I have no way of proving it obviously, but having a new $6k engine that's already flirting with failing numbers is extremely frustrating.

I think I'll contact Rob at Pineapple to see if he has any thoughts and maybe even MNAO.

Any input besides "It's blowed up" is welcome.

its blowed up mane, ya digz?

that sucks, hopefully it improves with some time and break in. you have been here long enough theres no magic solution to increase comp #s. i doubt dropping it would damage anything inside but anything is possible i guess

Don't think about or focus on the compression numbers. It's why on my original motor I didn't test it until right before my warranty was set to expire.
BC, you just spent a good deal of hard earned money to get your car back up and running, ENJOY IT My car ran like hell with low compression, I never babied the engine and had it not been for the free replacement, I would have continued to drive it and never have known the numbers were low.

At this point, honestly there isn't much you can do to raise compression so forget about it.

I know there's little room for improvement.

It's just extremely disappointing given I was so determined to buy a new engine and could've saved a couple thousand dollars on a rebuild for the same results.

**** happens.
don't sweat it. Honestly not worth focusing on since there isn't anything you can do about it.
who knows, maybe once the motor is broken in, you'll see slightly different #s.

I have never compression tested this motor, sometimes ignorance is bliss.

I'm in the same boat.. I don't compression test my cars. I just pay attention to how well they start (cold and hot) and drive. There is a write up somewhere on here about different compression testers and their numbers and how reliable they are. If the car starts hot and cold easily. just start driving it.

if anything i'd go back to kyle and see his answers, but you spent the money on a whole new engine(?) and you atleast got new parts if you do have to rebuild it, not that I think you have to. I know it took me some time to break in my RX8 but I don't believe kyle would've installed the new engine if it was bad. 200mph and everyone else is probably right, just might need some time to break in and seal properly.

We talked about it.
It's a new engine that was sold from Pineapple to a member who sold his 8 before it could be installed.
It was mishandled during shipping, so that could have something to do with it, but I doubt I could prove it.

Not much I can do about it now.
I'm just going to get what enjoyment I can out of it while I can.
I put a lot of money into it, I still love it.

Ohh gotcha, That kinda sucks how they handled shipping. Well if kyle put it together and it seems like he drove it 3 hours to you, It probably might work just fine for a long time. And could also just need breaking in. Hope you have lots of fun with your 8. I know I've had mine for two years and not a single issue other than it being stuck in winter..
And if its a new engine, if the time does come to when you do need to rebuild it, you atleast have new engine parts. Wish ya best of luck on driving it!

I got my last mod for my 8.

A used Racing Beat catback and what I assume is a BHR catted midpipe.

Very nice. My $0.02 worth - your question of whether to polish this? Yes, it will look much better.

I know I should, but I think I can do it after it's installed.
I didn't realize it's supposed to get cold again tomorrow, so if I can get my tools and garage squared away half fast I might attempt it.

Awesome, I’m glad you were able to pick this up. My 2 cents.. if you’re an old man like me. Running the cat plus the rb cat back sounds amazing on its own.

Yep, I'm swapping my resonated BHR midpipe for it.

The catted midpipe was the selling point for me.
I've been thinking about getting one because I need it to pass inspection and I've been swapping out a cheap Walker cat.
I am getting too old for that.

I wanted a RB catback also, but I didn't really want to spend almost $2k for both.
$500 + shipping was too good to pass up.

can you, yes. do you want to.... meh..
you'll have to remove the shroud for ease of access.... but it'll be much easier to do it on the workbench

oh and you don't have to be bent over the whole time if you do it on the workbench

True that.

It's 10° this morning, so I'm going to be trying to square away my disaster of a garage.
I'll need room to do it.

Most of my tools are scattered or buried on the workbench or in boxes from various projects.
More are out of my rollaway than in it.
3 years of pain made me a sloth.

I also have all the Quickjack stuff but the frames in the garage.
That stuff is taking up a lot of room.
I'm probably going to get the 8 up on the jacks today just to get that stuff out of the way.

Glad I stumbled upon this thread, and that you're almost there!

I'm trying to do something similar with my 04 Ti GT, been sitting at my parents garage for over 4 years..

I'm about to get rid of them already.
If they didn't lift it so high I'd regret getting them.
The only thing 'Quick' about them is the actual lifting.

Setting them up takes just a long as using jackstands

So after classic fuel pump failure symptoms the past couple of weeks, I replaced the fuel pump with a Delphi pump from Autozone, they were cheaper and had quickest delivery.
Runs good again.
It was just replaced, must've been a defective pump.
