Really sucks the engine was delivered like that. Here's hoping the engine checks out and all is well with it. Did you take any pictures of it after you unboxed it?

Yes, no obvious damage, so I only sent one.

Try to see where it hit and work from there, look for hairline cracks. Have had this happen before with lots of heavy used parts.

Also not thrilled to see there were no plugs in OMP ports, and omp drive. Sitting on the oil pan center is NG either.

Definitely go over it with a fine tooth comb before too long.

I looked at it closely, I didn't see anything.
There's not a whole lot I can do about it other than try to get a settlement, and that won't get me another new engine unless they become available again.

You can find plenty of listings for new engines, but almost never do they say 'out of stock'.
I was pestering Pineapple every month about it.

The installer may have a better eye for damage.
Unless he finds something I didn't, it's getting installed next month.

Yeah, new motors are nla at the moment. Read that they're stuck on a ship blah blah. My estimation is that as long as these issues with Russia and China don't resolve, there's going to be a shortage on a lot of things apart from renesis motors. Keep your cool and be patient. We're in for a wild ride.

Rotary Doctor is probably one of the best people you'll encounter, I had him install my engine a year and 2 months ago (ish). He knows the rotary from top to bottom, every little part, and things you wouldnt even imagine. He is also very friendly and will not hesitate to contact and will not turn your calls away. Sorry to hear about the company dropping the engine, but he will go through it tooth n nail and make sure its okay if it is. he will tell you if there was anything wrong with it. definitely liked rotary doctor.

Yup- and hes very honest and will be straightforward about anything on your car. I think you'll be safe in his hands. Glad to see the RX8 being ressurrected!!

Edit: Should mention that my engine has also been running like a charm ever since he put his magic on it.

Sorry for your woes

It likely went flying inside the truck going around a corner too fast or slamming on the brakes. They often don’t secure something like that down, just sit it on the floor as-is.

My builder had me buy a big, foam-lined pelican case that my engines ship in. The walls on it are about 3/8” thick and one side even cracked all the way through where it took a big whack of something once. The engine inside was fine though.

It seems like a lot of package damage to just have tumbled, but I guess it's possible.
That would be more reassuring than if it was actually dropped off the dock or liftgate.

I got the starter on it anyways.

0_o

Looks like it already had the updated starter.
I think I'm going to get a battery for it, ship it to Rotary Doc and let him finish it.
I was going to try to get it started, but I need to get the show on the road.

Completely forgot about the yellow wheel thing for the Japanese cars... looks like it's in really nice shape overall.

I do think the rotary doctor will probably be one of the best people to have working on your car. I cannot emphasize how awesome he was and the work he's done for my RX8. Still runs like a champ. Just need the fix the Grille popping out from going out on the highway.

Spare's in the trunk.
I decided to ask Kyle to do my rear shocks also.
One is leaking, I bought new ones a couple of years ago, never did them.
I just need to buy a new battery and find my battery tiedowns in my disaster of a garage and she should be ready to go.

I was going to let him do my brakes too, but I can't find my pads.

3 years of neglecting my garage and just piling stuff up without picking it up, it's that bad.

Update, engine is in, everything I wanted done has been done and she's running.
😀

Bad news, the fuel pump may be crapped out.
Apparently it's an S2 pump that has fitment issues I didn't realize.
Sold to me as an 'Exact Fit' pump.
I knew it was different from the OEM one, I just thought it was an updated pump.

Stuttering going uphill, no CELs or misfires.
Probably won't come home until early December now.

My baby has come home.

Huge thank you to Kyle and his brother from Rotary Doctor who made the 3 hour drive to bring it back to me.

He went way beyond my expectations cleaning the whole car, engine bay and all the engine components in the process of bringing it back to life.

Not only did he replace my broken headlight, he cleaned and treated both of them.
Things repaired or replaced;

Swapped the new engine in.
^*New headlight^.
Clutch and bearing
Installed my new shocks and bump stops
" " brake rotors and pads
Oil cooler line
New fuel pump
New bumper clips and side markers
6 CD player
Door speaker and amp
AC motherboard
Asst. solenoids and relays
Broken horn

I'm probably forgetting something, but awesome job at a more than fair price.

He also had no problem waiting for me to recover from my spinal fusion surgery enough to where I could drive before returning it to me.

Great guy, I highly recommend him.

Man I forgot about this project. So happy it came around for you. Sounds like you had worked with some really good people over there.

Its funny to look at too, all the paint chips are exactly where mine was chipped up I feel like. Gotta love the yellow, it shows every paint imperfection XD.

Yeah, the bumper is really bad.
I had considered getting a good paint job but my dog ate my money I would've used for that.

glad to see the LY back home!
don't worry about the paint, just make sure you go out and enjoy the hell out of the car now that it (and you) are back on the road.

Thanks.
Inspection flunked me for 2 tires.
The tpms light was on before it went down so I ordered all 4 of those.
My local Firestone partners with Tire Rack.
The last time I wanted them to do it they made me a better deal on a set of their Bridgestones.
I might try that again.
