I have read about SO many people doing that , I think I 'll stick with my saris bones just for that reason.
I'm too scatterbrained to trust myself not to do that.

First, I'd like to thank everyone for their input. There are several solutions that people can use here.

Second, I found the solution for me this past weekend. The convertible that my wife selected is the new Saturn Sky. Nice looking car, with the cargo capacity of an envelope. The imporatant thing is that it is only $27K, fully loaded, so I'm keeping the 4Runner to haul my bikes in the summer and to keep my car out of the snow in the winter (plus the two weeks of sand that follow the snow in this area). So this could not have gone better as far as my 8 goes.

I just installed the Yakima roof rack system (Q Towers, Q Clips, and crossbars) with the King Cobra upright bike mount. Easy to setup... took me about 2 hours b/c I'm so OCD with my 8
