Yeah i drove them to a hotel , id like to see the s2000 bring 3 girls in , cant even fit them in the car and what not . But s2000 imo is better if you want more power. Ive seen some crazy dyno numbers on some s2000's. Never seen an rx8 go further then 400whp. just my advice.

Interesting comments about an S2000 “blowing up”; out of the x-million Honda produced VTEC engines, there has never been ONE reported failure (on an otherwise stock engine). However smoother the rotary engine is, the number of failures of Rx8 engines has been far from a trivial amount.

I really like Honda reliability, especially of their engines, but where'd you get the idea that no VTEC has ever failed? I remember hearing of one or two stock engines that failed.

He heard it from drinking too much of Jeremy Clarkson's KoolAid

On an episode where Jeremy drove an S2K he mentioned that out of the 15,000,000 VTEC engines from Honda, not one has had a failure.

If you believe that, I've got some beach front property in Wyoming that I'd like to sell you.

Was Jeremy Clarkson humorously exaggerating to make a very valid point--Honda engines are indeed quite reliable--or does he actually believe zero have failed?

Well I'd like to see the source for those failures. The zerofailure is a well-known a statistic that is quoted everywhere. I think the number of engines is up to 15million, but that's from memory. I'm sure there have been VTEC ebngines that have failed, but due to mods etc. It's was also quoted on Top Gear in a recent season.

My wife has a Honda Pilot VTEC and I know I've read of a couple of engine failures over at HondaPilot.org. Hardly any Pilots are modded BTW. Don't get me wrong, Honda engines are extremely reliable, I love 'em, but common sense should tell you that some fail.

He said that the vtec system has never had a failure, which makes sense as long as the stock ecu and vtec cams are in place. Basically means that there hasn't been a defective part produced...

Are you saying that Jeremy Clarkson said something different about no defective parts? Not quite sure I understand.

I think he's saying that the engine has never failed as a result of a defective VTEC part?

I'm sure the buyers of rx-8 and s2k have one thing in common. Not many of us like 350Z. As a guy who loves nimble cars, I was hugely disappointed when I test drove my friend's 350Z. It just simply felt like a boat, and nowhere as communicative as s2k and rx-8. The upgrade Z is getting is very nice though, especially the 2007+, but it's just not the type of a car I'd ever get into, plus I hate their community where too many owners are ***** knowing nothing regarding a car.
