Beat up 8?
I went to the dealership today and sat in a red 8.....1500 miles on it and the build date was 12-03......well i started it up....and to my surprise the shift **** was violently shakin left and right while vibrating very bad.....the vibrating was so bad the numbers on the shift **** looked blurry. The shift **** was moving left and right like someone was forcing it....the car wasnt shaking just the shifter...so i turned the car off and checked for the M flash.....it had the L flash according to the brake test.Than i went and sat in a winning blue one..with a buildate of 6/2004.....started up smoother and better than the last 8...but this one only had 9 miles on it. It had the M flash and i barely felt any vibration threw the shifter. The other car even in 1st the shift **** shook and vibrated badly. The winning blue sounded better, didnt shake/vibrate,and started easier. So was the red 8 beaten on badly or is it just like that?

My 8 does the same thing the red one did. My shift **** vibrates a ton just as you described it. I believe i have the L flash tho so maybe it's the M that helps?

has nothing to do with the flash I don't think...I believe it is the damper recall for the MT 8's from around that build date and before...
I just had mine fixed...no more vibration but mine was never that bad...I'm told SERIOUS damage can happen to the car and quite possibly the passengers if this **** isn't fixed...if it is fixed then the car willbe fine
but this is just a suggestion don't hold me to this

The "brake test" works the same for the "L" and the "M" flashes. They both do the oil pressure gage sweep. It doesn't do anything for earlier flashes.

We just picked up our second RX-8 in a week due to the first one being all messed up. It sounded like it was beaten to hell and back, and the new one is so smooth, and gives a much better drive. Maybe we were sold the test drive model, but whatever, i'm happy. The dealer gave us the same color and option car with a 6-disc changer and a tape player for the same price, with only 90 miles. :D
