On average a battery should last 4-5 years, thats estimated from talking to mechanics, and auto stores.

On the flip side if you are running a lot of electrical components in the car like head rest tv screens, sub woofers/amps etc, most likely you'll shorten the life span of your battery, but it all really depends.

Check battery and charging system.

To stop "the blue stuff":
Go to a parts store and buy the felt washers made for battery use, they should be less than $5.00 for a set of two (probably much less than 5).
Put the green felt under the negative and the red one under the positive leads.
Coat the battery terminals with Vaseline or axle grease before reconnecting them.

The felt things have a chemical in them and the grease stops oxidation.

Go to Wally world
Get the MAXX 24FS.
75 bucks plus tax plus state crap fee
700CCA
875 cranking amps at 32F
3 year full warranty
Its about one inch longer than the OEM but fits in the battery box
tie down works fine.
You do not have to add any thing to it like u do to the optima
The optima is a bit shorter, this one is same height

I have always but in physically larger batteries in all the cars/trucks I have owned.
No problem what so every
I always go with Larger CCAs
oem had 550 CCAs, MAXX 24Fs has 700
side, ie width is same so no change, effect on those sides
its about one inch longer so not much effect there cause it still has a little clearance so air still goes around.
I would not even bother to add any holes or slits to the battery box.
Will see what happens. ie how long this one lasts.
