Bad response from Mazda dealers??

Called several Mazda dealers and ask about the RX-8. They had no or very little information on the car and did not sound to enthused or really want to sell the car.

Here's what I was told.
- Don't have much info
- Don't have any pricing
- I was told they will be in sometime in the summer
- We can pre-order if you want????

None of the dealers were excited about the car or had anything to say??

Is anyone else getting this?

I live in the Phila area.

i got... uhm hold on, let me get a pamphlet... oh, we're taking pre orders are we? ...there's a website? ...does the website give you pricing as well? oh.. ok, you want to pre-order? uh sure.

then i got to talk to hrm some manager, the one that does the purchasing and he knew all about it, he was contemplating ordering himself one too.

i honestly wouldn't expect a salesman to know much about it until it was on the showroom floor, but the fleet manager or lot manager or something would probably know what was being available in the near future.

I found out through my laborious search that most salemen do not know what they are talking about. You can ask for the lot or sales manager, but they may even be a little cloudy on the details, and worse still, since they are the manager, might leave you with the wrong information. My advice would be to ask for the youngest salesperson there.

Every place I went to that treated me kindly, there was a young, relatively new salesman that knew about the RX-8. Of course not to the level that I was, but enough to give me a good feeling about the information they gave me. The more experienced salesmen just care about what is on the lot now and the tactics in selling them. The rookies are enthusiastic about the future products and are more open and emotional about the car, just my opinion.

I think that you have to ask for the Internet Sales Manager. I pre-ordered on 1-08-03 at 8:00 a.m. -- basically waiting at the dealership door on Day 1 for pre-orders. The salespeople had no idea what an RX-8 was but fortunately were smart enough to realize that I should speak to the designated Internet Sales Manager (a glorified regular sales rep by all accounts). He had just received the info. from Mazda that morning and took my order and input online in about 15 minutes. If the dealership doesn't have an Internet Sales Manager -- I would suggest finding another dealer.

yep what he said. talk to the internet person. also try to find a dealer that is mazda only at the site. its hard to find nowadays but if you can, avoid the ones that have multiple brands at one location.

yeah most of the salesmen are only interested in selling you the cars on the lot and they don't know jack about the cars except that they want you to buy them. it depends on the dealers, too. i went to 2 maz dealers, one had it together, was pretty enthusiastic about the mazda6, and seemed to know somewhat what's going on w/ the 8, while the other one seemed to know absolutely nothing and seemed to have no desire to sell anything
