Thrusday: Left salesman one voice mail
Friday: Left salesman two voice mails, and uncle who works in the same company left one
Saturday: Left one voice mail
Sunday: lease ended. Called mazda for advice, they told me to contact the dealership
Monday: Left voicemail
Tuesday: Showed up to dealership (1 hour drive), gave back my car, went home, went to acura dealership and bought a TL.

...

Wednesday: Wishing my goddamn salesman would have called me back so I could have got another RX8. BUT I needed a car so I didn't have much choice.

How are you liking the TL?

Is the ride a great deal smoother than the 8, and is it a lot quieter as far as road noise?

I actually want to know because my wife is thinking about the TL.

It seemed ok in the test drive, and I NEEDED A CAR, like TODAY. And yeah the TL is nice, but I didn't realize until now, how much luxury really isn't as important to me as handling. Plus WTF I like to hear my motor! Its hard to drive a stick when the engine makes no noise!
What a mess, this sucks. I'll probably drive it for a little while and then look into getting out of it. I did found quite a few web sites that let you "trade" your lease to someone else, without breaking it. Maybe I'll look into that.

The TL is a much smoother ride, but you don't AT ALL feel glued to the road. In fact, you kinda feel all over the road. It is much quieter inside. And the bluetooth handsfree phone system is sweet. It has one big flaw (no phone address book access) but still, that would be a real nice addition to the 8. As would the alleged 270 HP that the TL has.

My salesperson WAS the manager at this place. And I tried talking to someone else that I think was a regular salesman, and he just 'yes'd me until i hung up with him and that was that.

i know what you mean as far as luxury vs performance. a mercedes c230 dropped at my rental branch last week and i rented it for a day to see how it was. i went up and down a few interesting stretches of road on my drive home and it didn't feel anywhere near as good as the rx8. sure it was a nice ride, the sound system was better, it had a name that carried loads of respect and class with it, but i'd just as soon never drive it again if i had to trade the way the 8 feels when going around corners.

sorry to read your sad tale.
right now i cant imagine driving a car i dont enjoy each time i get behind the wheel. You should just start buying an rx-8 instead of leasing, then you'll have it forever!

yeah i mean thats the sum of it. Although another thing i will say, the TL's seats get toasty warm even on LOW, my 8's never seemed to get hot.

Look on the bright side, you'll be getting better gas mileage. My daily driver, a maxima, doubles my 8's mileage.

Actually we have both the 8 and the TL. My wife mostly drives the TL and I mostly drive the 8. The TL is more powerful and more luxurious and has pretty good handling (especially compared to the Silverado and Grand Am we came from). It also has better build quality - we have absolutely no squeaks, rattles, etc after almost 9000 miles of driving. I had a dash rattle and the brake squeal almost from day 1 on the RX-8. . I think the TL is probably the best overall car on the road for the money. But you are right, it is not RWD which I prefer.

The 8 is more fun to drive, has a cool engine sound (you are right, the engine on the TL is very quiet), and has better handling. It is also a much more unique car both in apperance and in engine, which I like. I actually like the sound of the Bose system in the Rx-8 better than the DVD audio in the TL

I should also say the TL gets great gas mileage for its power output. We get in the low 20s around town, whereas in the 8 we get 16-18 around town.

Yeah i hate the fact that I paid for a 6 disc changer, XML, and a tape deck... when all i'll ever use is my ipod... but yeah i had the dash rattle too. I guess the bottom line is that I realized too late that I really just want a race car. And I much prefer "third" doors to real doors. Its not like I have kids or anything! But I guess it is stupid to drown myself in debt just to get out of this car. I guess I'll just beat the bag out of it for 3 year and then try to get back into another 8

Sorry to say it, but the dealer must have seen you coming for miles! Why didn't you just rent for a few days/weeks until your Mazda dealer got his head out of his *** and called you? Far better than being in the $$ hole with a car you don't find inspiring to drive.

I would say try taking the TL on a highway trip. You may find that it grows more on you then. I find it to be a great car for road trips with the comfort, stability, and horsepower. You can pretty much pass at will with that car with all the HP. And it is so stable and tracks so well that it pretty well drives itself.

Might want to pick up a couple DVD audio discs if there are any that you like. The surround sound can be pretty neat if it is mixed right. If you haven't tried it yet, try the sample disc that comes with the car. There are some good mixes on there, and the first couple tracks show you the difference between standard CD audio and DVD-audio.

Just trying to help you find ways to enjoy the TL more and get over your regret It will never be as "passionate" a car as the 8, but it is still a great car. We really do enjoy both cars in different ways.

I guess lesson learned. Never rush into buying a car, if you knew your lease was ending, start doing your research on new cars, test drives, or actually go to the dealer if you want to keep your car, and their not calling you back. If your in a jam, rent a car for a week, I would much rather pay a couple hundred bucks and find the car I want, then being stuck with one I hate for 3 to 4 years. Good luck with the TL, I think it will start to grow on you.

I just took it on a highway trip. Every second i spend in this car, i hate it more and more. I feel like I'm driving my moms subaru. The engine is toruqey on the streets but on the highway this car has nothing, and the steering feel slike its all over hte place comapred to my RX8. And this situation was not my fault. Yeah the renting a car would be a good idea if that had occured to me, but i started this two months ago. Every dealer i went to treated me like ****. Then i finally decided on another 8, that dealer is in the family, everything was going well until a week before my lease ended, they stopped taking my calls. I run my own business and so I NEED a car, simple as that. I didn't have a whole lot of options, but at this point i'd rather be driving my moms subaru. If i'm going to hate my car, better off hating a car and saving a ton of money then hating my car and spending a ton of money.

This sounds about right. Mercedes seems to be more "luxury" whereas BMW is more of a driver's car.

As far as Acura is concerned they appear to be aimed at customers less concerned with performance as a proirity but have tried to shoot a little adrenaline into their lineup lately, but are still by no means sports cars.

Don't get me wrong Acuras are damn good cars (as are M-B's) but are not what I look for in a car.

And 1080com... What is the rules on leases? Can the contract not be broken w/o buying the car outright, paying penalties and/or ruining your credit?

I read the contract in its entirety, it only mentions early termination, I don't know if this applies or not.

The RX8's lease payment was so much less, i'd rather loose a couple thousand dollars, and have the same payment as i have now, and at least have a car i love to drive. So I'm going to bail out of this one.
