from an insurance provider, that sounds about right down the middle for the year abd milage concerned. As i previously said, when they total it, you'll take a loss, but it'll give you the freedom to do any which way with a new car.

So she's at fault & it won't affect your ins. rates. That's good, at least.

That value is ok. It sucks for you, I'm sure. But it doesn't seem like you're getting screwed - any more than anyone else does when it comes to insurance companies.

What do y'all think - am I getting screwed? I figured it'd be worth at least another couple grand.
KBB is the inflator of all resale inflators for the RX8.

Retail: 19405
Private Party: 16285
Trade-in: 13325

I guess the are valuing it at PP value. I'd say that's fair. RX8 resale is really bad.

I told the adjuster the engine had been replaced, and he said to send the receipt - it would probably add a couple hundred to the value.

I said my final goodbyes today - went over to the collision center to put my old coils and wires back in, after asking the adjuster if that was OK.

There was even more damage than I suspected. I had a harder time getting to the coils, because something got pushed over about an inch.

I went across the street and took a look at a grey Shinka with 4K miles. The wanted 25 for it, which seems pretty reasonable, but I think I'm just still in mourning over the 8. I test drove a Mazdaspeed 6 and a Mazdaspeed 3, and they just didn't do anything for me. Helluva lot more torque then the 8, though...

what did you think of the MS3 and 6? I was actually thinkin of takin them both out for a spin simply for the sake of comparison. I've heard so much from here and there about them and wondered how they truly held up when compared to the 8.

Any insight you have would be muchly appriciated.

I don't think I can give you a fair assessment. I'm still in mourning over my RX-8. In fact, even driving the Shinka just wasn't the same to me. I probably need to wait a month or so, and then decide what to do.

I thought both the 3 and the 6 certainly had the power, but you just can't compare a 4100lb or a 4500lb car to the RX-8 for handling. If you haven't been a rotary guy for 20+ years, they'd both be great...

I agree and am saddened by your loss. Glad to hear everyone was okay though.
I hope you get another 8, while not the most practical.........you've been bitten by the bug!
Oh yeah.........you should try driving down here in Florida with all the Snow birds, the International crazies(from Disney area), and then all the Cotton tops(Blue Hairs) thrown into the mix! I see stuff everyday that you'd just crap your pants over and I'm amazed I have come through unscathed to this point!

Good news - they bumped up my check by $1,100. I sent the adjuster receipts for the engine and clutch replacement, and on the fax I said "Just wanted to verify also that you accounted for the nav system". Guess what? He hadn't!

Now I feel like the settlement is pretty fair.

I went to a graduation dinner last week and ate off of a rotor-shaped plate. Since I didn't shed a tear, I guess the official mourning period must be over. So, I bought a new car today. Decided to take a break from the rotary and picked up a Cosmic Blue 'Speed 3. At least I kept it in the family...

Y'all have been a great bunch of guys, and I'll miss participating in the '8 conversations (at least from an owner's perspective). I'll probably check in from time to time - after all, this is where I first found out about the '8 back in '03. Where else would I get the early scoop on a turbo or supercharged 8? :D

Good luck with your rides.

speed 3 was a good choice, bro. I love my 8 and all, but if the 3 was around when I was lookin at the 8, it woulda been a REALLY hard choice and I woulda had to really knawl over the small details.

lets see some picks, bro!

First off, glad to hear that everyone came out of this basically unharmed. If she was really doing 50MPH when she hit you that's amazingly low damage (all things considered). Also glad to hear that the insurance company totaled it. That car would never be the same if they attempted to fix it.

Oh, but it certainly could. If you contact your insurance company and they have to pay out anything it appears on your record for the next 5 years - even if they later recover the money from the at fault person's insurance company. I found this out the hard way.

I currently have 3 accidents on my driving record - none of which were my fault - because I contacted my insurance company to have them deal with the other person/their insurance. Two of the accidents were when I was driving my truck and in both instances the other driver was at fault and ticketed. The last (and most recent) one was the hit-and-run to my 8 in a parking lot back in early January.

In all three cases my insurance company paid for the damages (minus deductible) and in the first two cases they recovered the money from the other party's insurance company.

I always assumed that this would not appear on my record or affect my insurance rates. That was the wrong assumption. I recently changed insurance companies and when I signed up I told them about the one speeding ticket I have. Yea. Got my new rate, blah blah. A few days later my rates went up by several hundred dollars. I contacted my insurance company to find out WTF. After contacting them I requested my driving record from <some company> (sorry that I can't recall their name). Apparently all insurance companies use data from them to verify your driving record or whatever. I got the record and found all three of the aforementioned accidents listed. After reading through all the documentation that came with the report I learned that if your insurance company pays out any money it winds up on this magic piece of paper. They can choose to mark whether or not the accident was your fault or they can choose to just mark it as a collision. At any rate it shows up. It negatively effects your insurance rate. It does so for 5 years. That sucks ***.
