I found a few searches of people who had problems like I have, bad start+ smoke+gas smell. And people were saying coils are bad.:/ but that would not make the car smoke right?

 

Smoke is from unburnt fuel from crappy ignition or rich mixture ( black), from coolant leak (white), or from oil leak (blue)

Take your pick

A bit of blue/black is normal for a rotary...but coupled with hard starts...check your coils/plugs and then get a compression check
