if anyone goes over an 8 second 0-60 in their manual rx8, either something is wrong with their car or they fail as a driver.

so again, why not consider an A/T??
The OP in that thread hasn't actually built anything yet. He's just hypothesizing and he doesn't understand the limitations the auto has in comparison to the MT.

Again, I'm not bashing the A/T. I have worked extensively with an 04AT, this is just an enumeration of the major differences.

04AT is a 4 port engine vs 6 port engine.
AT is limited to ~7500rpm redline with the factory tq converter.
AT has more driveline losses than MT
04-05 AT is a 4-speed gearbox with REALLY REALLY tall gearing, meaning significantly slower 0-60. The 06+ AT is a 6-speed gearbox.

The real question to honestly ask of the OP is why are you considering this car? What do you expect out of it? What do you want to do with it? the AT may, in fact, be the correct car for the OP.

No need to pass judgment. No need for name calling. Just what do you want out of the car?

the driver involvement of the auto is so consuming it must be hard to focus on the road flying by you as you dip into that throttle of your detuned motor

woohoooooo!!!!!!!!

Why do you ask?

also the terribly confusing grammar on that post you quoted was quickly deleted and i reposted, but you quoted me before it refreshed, thus making me look even dumber than I might actually be.

grammer mistakes aside it's a very naive perspective. There are lots of reasons someone may buy the AT version of this, or any car. Each person has a different set of circumstances in their own lives to consider.

Some people never have an open mind and what ever they have is "the best", it's usually a trait of the young and uninformed.

It's one thing to even have the audacity to come on these forums with an auto 8 and get upset when people make fun of you (which is inevitable for anyone who buys an automatic sports car), but it's amazing how many people actually seem to think the auto 8 is somehow just as good as the mt. Yes making fun of you makes me feel better about myself for getting the manual transmission, but really I'm doing you a favor for shunning you. I would rather have my organs slowly ripped from my body than be caught in public with an automatic sports car. I would also feel very grateful to anyone who had the courage to explain how ridiculous I am if I were to somehow make the foolish choice of getting an auto 8, so that I may not be so foolish in the future.

Auto 8= joke

MT 8=instant classic

BTW, I know a disabled American Veteran with a 4AT that would out lap you at the race track.

Go back to the celica forums that you came from.

How do you know I suck at driving? I mean, I'm sure I do, but i would have to REALLY suck to get beat by a 4speed AT 8.

uhh...what's a GN?

if you are talking about a drag/muscle car, then that's not really relevant, because those aren't sports cars anyway. If an auto tranny gets you down the drag strip faster for a particular car/setup, then that's cool, but since the 8 is clearly designed to be an all around driver's car, then the auto really is a sad existence.

Be glad that not everyone has a MT... I have seen some people unable to walk and chew gum.... I would love to see those people try to rock a clutch....

Auto 8= joke

MT 8=instant classic

You= Joke

Phil's 8= Instant Classic.

Can you not understand different preferences? No A/T or M/t is better than the other, that is due to the persons opinion. Everyone has their own opinion, but stating the fact that A/T isn't as good as M/T is completely ignorant. Have you not got the brain power to figure out that you aren't the only person who has this car. You aren't the engineer of this car, heck I don't think you are even passable as a high school janitor.

It's easy to say that this is worse than this, or that is worse than that, but do you have any proof at all? No you don't. That's because choosing A/T over M/T or M/T over A/T is a preference. I happen to have a Manual rx-8, but I chose it over different reasons over the automatic version (power loss and much less power and price range). But I won't bash anyone for having it, but many a few ribs here and there It's like saying you prefer apples over oranges. You say that Macintosh apples are much better than red apples. My point is, you can't compare other people's circumstances and opinions (in this topic)if you have no proof of it.

Remember, it's one thing to give an opinion, but it's another to show stupidity and ignorance.

End of Rant.
