Unhappy Auto 05 Rx8.....Just not pulling that hard...?

So Ive had my 05 rx8 auto (with tip) for a few weeks, and it just Doesnt Seem to Pull all that hard..... Im wondering if maybe there is something wrong.....

My grandmothers v6 camry will smoke my rx8 from 0-60 any day and I see that as being somewhat fishy........ I cant even break the wheels free when accelerating hard (no tract cont)

It recently had a new motor put in it and I was wondering if maybe there might be a problem with it. If I were to take it to the mazda place, would it cost me anything to have them test it, and if I do will they try to charge me through the roof?

Or is it all just me

You have a 4-port/4-speed automatic. You put down around 130hp to the wheels

Yep, 4 port auto = slow. Hell my dads Titan gave my car a run for it's money when both were new years ago. I think the V-6 Camry has about 100 more HP.

Sounds like someone should have done some research before purchasing the car.

As mentioned before, the 4 port autos made a lot less power. With a good set of tires, it takes a little effort to break traction in a manual, so it should be expected that the lower power auto with no means to "launch" would have less ability to break traction. With my 245's on, I haven't been able to brake traction from straight out accelerating... mostly results from aggressive shifting etc, which is not that often as I don't intend to destroy the car.

Even if you didn't do research, you at least drove that car or another automatic 8 before you bought the car, right? If not, you don't really have much to complain about.

Ok so at least there isnt anything wrong with the car then from the sounds of it. I would have just thought that an auto rx8 would still be able to at absolute least keep up with an auto camry.

Oh well, I guess in that case Im not as suprised. Just asking because when I test drove my friends auto 06 before I decided to get mine his pulled a little harder than mine does now.

But now the real dilema- I have the option of strait up trading in for an 04 manual with 81k (mine has 70k but brand new engine)

So by doing it I drop a year and gain 10k and not a new engine but gain a manual, So what do you guys think? Should I

The 2006+ automatic has the 6-port drivetrain and around 25-35 more horsepower.

Turbo, Supercharger or Nitrous. That will speed it up.

Looks like you like going faster than your RX8 in a straight. Just steal your grandmas Camry for now.

Yikes. If I were you, I'd be disappointed with my purchase. Ultimately, that's your choice on the trade. You're assuming a completely different car in who-knows what shape. You could be destined for issues, but it comes down to what you feel it's worth to have a manual. As far as overall driver satisfaction, I'd say do it. I've never driven an auto RX8, but the thought of it makes me vomit in my mouth.

It's risky to just jump into a whole new vehicle, but the manual is just so much better. I really regret getting an A4, sad thing is I know how to drive manual, I just didn't think it would be THIS big of a difference. Now I am sad and want to trade in for an M6!

Screw that. I love my auto RX8, though it is an '09 with a 6 speed auto. While I might not have the redline of a manual, it's so nice day-to-day and it'll shift as fast as a stock manual.

Horsepower is a function of torque. Our cars make the same about of torque always and horsepower until I hit my redline. If I removed my rev limiter, then we'd have the same amount of horsepower.

This is why I just mentioned the redline, and not the HP, as it isn't relevant unless redline is mentioned.

^^^ your car still doesnt perform like MT's, You have a Steel driveshaft as well as your car weighs a good 100lbs more because ATs are heavy... Lets not forget when that AT tranny fluid warms up and starts getting hot the Flex Plate starts slipping and the shifts are no way as fast as a MT...

Ask me how I know these things... I used to have a AT RX8... Dont compare a slushbox with the ability to control gears to a manual transmisson. The AT is no SMG or dual-clutch transmisson...

Hate to break it to you... not trying to bash you but point you in the same direction

I completely understand they aren't comparable when performance comes into question. I obviously traded some performance for some comfort.

I was just saying that the auto wasn't terribly behind. Then again, I was coming from a auto '91 T/A daily driver, so any new auto will seem like the most amazing thing ever. But otherwise, I've driven my share of manual's, and one DSG GTi, so I can appreciate the performance when needed. My saying the auto isn't all bad, is equivalent to someone with a M/T saying the clutch is easy to use day-to-day. It's not as easy as a auto, but it's worth mentioning instead of disregarding completely.

At any rate, in respect to the OP, neither the auto or manual will pull particularly hard, as the car isn't very torquey. And besides, handling is amazing in all RX-8's!
