Just wanted to know what your guys opinions are comparing these 2 cars.

TT with the 1.8T is based on the MKIV VW Golf/Jetta/NB platform. Front engine, FWD or Haldex-based AWD (electro-hydraulic clutch transfers power from front to rear wheels).

IMHO, one will perform well on a track, the other will eat all of your money with silly repairs. The second one will also have sludging and coking issues if not babied with mandatory synthetic oils. Be glad it's not the longitudinal 1.8T from the A4/Passat as that variation only has a 4.2 qt oil capacity (for a freaking turbocharged engine!!!!).

Ok I put my money where my mouth is.

2 weeks ago I drove both cars and a Nissan 350Z for the first time.
My RX8 arrives early next week.

The Nissan was a convertible and I decided I don't like convertibles after a short drive in 40 (107 F) degree heat.

The coupe might be a chance but I am sure I would still prefer the RX8.

Liked about the Audi:
The engine is great but it makes you drive around in short bursts of manic acceleration.
Good gearbox and well balanced for fwd.
The exterior styling is extremely good.
The hatch opening with the rear seats down gives a usable boot. If I owned one it would stay that way, calling it a 4 seater is a joke.
Disliked:
Poor, narrow driving position.
Drab styling. I felt like I was in a cross between a tank and a coffin.
Dismal visibility.
Stupid rear seats.
Being in the same showroom as the S6 without $200000 to spend.


Mazda Likes:
Feels like a sports car when you sit in it
Perfect driving position.
Clever packaging - I set my driving position then got into the back and concluded that I could travel there. I am 6' tall so that was a pleasant surprise.
Unfortunately I had to drive it in traffic but it has the zip and manouverability that I want. The open road handling will be a treat I get when it come home to the hills.
My only dislikes are the small boot and lack of a spare - both minor issues.

I am getting rid of a Holden Caprice - think big - very big with a 5.7 litre Corvette engine. Excellent for long distances with the family but they are getting their own cars now so I can get a car for me.

Thanks for all the amazing feed back ! thats what i was looking for and got it all in one post. One question tho, err well two actually. What do you mean small boot? i think you mean as in trunk space? and also what about compared to gas mileage wise (I know everybody gets flamed when they talk about this.) But to add to your Pro's for the rx8, from what iv read on these forums is you have to drive it like a beast and it works better :D Perfect for me! Petal to the floor Score

Oh yeah you call it a trunk.

As far as fuel consumption goes I could care less. My current car is big with a V8 and uses more fuel on average.

The RX8 is rated at 12.8 l/100km (19mpgUS) the car I had averaged 14.5 (16.2mpg US) although I do nearly all country driving so they would probably be more similar.

this is probably similar to my car then now, i drive a 1995 v6 Camaro.

 

Is not the same engine, but my best friend has a 250HP 3.2 TT with the much overrated (IMHO) DSG secuential change and Quattro traction (the previous gen, not the current one), I can tell you that on the straights is not faster than the RX-8 until both cars take very high speed (210kms/h, then the TT starts going faster) and in the bends is a lot slower. It weights a lot more than the RX-8 and doesn't have so good chassis. The back seats are worthless, even for short people. Oh, and the garages will stole you badly on every visit (500+ euros for a simple service, that's about 700$)

And his real mpg average is the same as mine, driving it usually a lot softer than I drive my RX-8.

It wins on the nice and cool interior and finish (the RX-8 looks cheap compared to it), the VERY NICE boot door, the resale value, the good audio equipment (also Bose, but much better) and by the fact that the girls usually are more impressed by the TT.
