Anyone receive a letter from MANOfor this test?
I received a letter from Mazda about an exhaust emissions test that they are conducting stating that my car was randomly selecte.
They will provide a Mazda rental vehicle, do dyno testing of about 80 miles, wash the car and return it with a full tank of gas, and give me $150.00.
I would have to take off the cat back exhaust that I have, as they say certain mods would make the car exempt from the test. I'm sure my exhaust would throw it out.
Maybe it's paranoia, but do you think they may be monitoring some cars that possibly have something in their database showing aftermarket modifications for purposes of voiding any warranty claims?
I could use the money for my racing tire budget, but I don't want to take the chance of voiding my warranty.
BTW-my car is a 2007 that has had a brake caliper replaced and the transmission synchros replaced under warranty. I tool out my racing harnesses, but left the aftermarket cat-back on when I had it serviced.

Others have received this letter in the past. I don't think I've heard of it for about 2 yrs now.
If a catback is your only mod, that shouldn't exempt you from the test. A midpipe or a highflow cat would however.

This is pretty interesting! It's good to know that they're clearly looking for long-term emissions/performance/etc data from "real world" vehicles. I know its a novel engine and all, but its kinda scary that they have to resort to this (no other manufacturer I know does something like that...)
A catback exhaust shouldnt affect data like that *much*, but they probably would not let you do the test because theoretically it does make some difference, and they wouldnt want theoretically unknown changes from aftermarket parts screwing up their data.
