6.1 0-60 is not bad....probally alot of wheel spin.Should give Honda's Si a run for its money although i could see the Si slightly having its advantages in the corners. I test drove a MS6 before the 8, i felt slower than my 2k2 maxima that was slightly modded. The turbo lag sucked on it and it didn't feel as tossiable as my Max, which lead me to believe, if i was going to get another sports sedan, i wanted to step up a notch a.k.a BMW M5, not be on the same level or slightly below my Maxima.

Then test drove the 8, the rest was history......

Even though the 8 maybe Mazda's halo car, its not there bread and butter maker, the 8 is more of a niche car.Just like most manufactures who have sports cars under the belt. So Mazda would be wise to keep the 3 and 6 revised and fresh so they can keep generating money. They may give the 8 a mild refresh, a bump in Hp , but don't expect any earth shattering changes to it.

I honestly don't care. I don't think Mazda will forget about giving the 8 more power, so just be patient.

Hehehe how am i going to put this without getting flamed? Noone should buy an 8 for the power. That is just silly. You buy the 8 for looks, feel, style and because it touches that tender little soft spot in your heart. (Yes i took out my 8 after winter hibernation yesterday and im still floating on clouds)

To compare the RX-8 with the MS3 and MS6 is purely silly. Of course they can press out more power since it is the same old boring engine technology that has been tested for years and years on end. The renesis is a little baby engine crawling out on all fours testing out how fast it can go. Just wait and it will sooner or later learn to walk and to run and then...

Personally i think i would drive an 8 faster than an MS6 or MS3 (both of them front heavy because of the piston engine). An agile car fits my driving style more than raw power and hence im driving an 8.

And finally i wonder why so many people are screaming for more power in the 8. We arent good enough drivers to take advantage of the power it has. Any professional race driver in an 8 would beat us so badly if we were driving an Enzo or something.

So simply put, the 8 doesnt need more power, we need to learn to drive the 8 faster instead.

No my point is why doesn't Mazda do something with their performance halo car? instead they focus on 6 and 3 and avoid the car that could use the extra power, the 8
Note: The following response is due to what all these threads and those similar do to us rx8club members

Mr. Hyde...

I agree, I’m glad they made the MS6…and I’ll be glad they make a MS3 (while I think FWD is a big mistake), but meanwhile the RX8 keeps looking more and more like the red headed stepchild of the Mazda family.

“The RX8 is more than HP numbers…”
“The rotary is expensive to build…”
etc etc etc

It seems all Mazda can do is complain about their heritage and find ways of making excuses on why they aint making a better RX8. Honestly, I don’t’ really want a MS8…I want a better normal 8 and an even better MS8.

Dr. Jeckle...

With that said…I hope I’m wrong about Mazda and they blow our socks off with a better RX8. The car already is great…why not make it even better!

Mr. Hyde...

People…it isn’t that some of us are insecure, it isn’t that we don’t love our 8 as it is, it’s the principle that we are upset about. I would think your halo performance car would be the first to be modded yet it seems it might be the last or forgotten about altogether.

Dr. Jeckle...

Yet, I must argue with myself...Mazda has to follow the plan that makes the most business sense regardless what us fans want them to do.

Mr. Hyde...

This is my first rotary and RX and I love it a bunch but honesty if Mazda bailed on the RX8…gave up on it, I don’t think I’d get another RX again. Either you are committed to it or you aint, I’d just keep my RX8 and get something else next time.

Dr. Jeckle....lol

With that said, I’m well aware Mazda is the only car company that has put time, money, and research into the rotary powered sports car so I’m not calling for their heads just yet. I’ll keep enjoying my 8 and hopping that Mazda cares enough about it to make a great sports car even better. Let’s dream a bit…if Mazda is aware of the MS6’s power/performance and the MS3’s…I think they would have to come out with at least a 280HP RX8. But that’s just a dream….(personally, a 300HP RX8 sounds better).

Regardless…I think Mazda has something up their sleeve and all of us are just acting like babies, “I want a new toy…I want a new toy…give me a new toy….wahhhhh wahhhhhh”

LOL, we need some patient’s people.

Mr. Hyde…
One thing I’ve seen…Mazda seems to be the most hush hush car company I’ve seen.

I'm exhausted, lol!

That is somewhat the truth, if more people actually took track lessons to get the full potential of there car,or practiced on rev matching , speed shifting , launching , entering the corners with proper speed and existing out of them faster, i think you would get less complaints out the 8. I know we can't talk about kills, but with 3 months of ownership i flat out embarressed many cars where on paper they should have wiped the floor with my 8, but if you know how to drive the 8 , it will perform with high expectations and leave the other driver scratching his head, asking,"what the hell just happen here"?

You won't win them all, but you won't lose them all either if you know how to drive.

Why would any 8 owner be "PO'd" about the MS3? It's a cheaper car, if you're upset by it, then go trade in your 8 for one. If you'd never dream of doing something like that, then be happy with your purchase and move on.

complaining about torque steer seems overrated in most cases.

Mommmmmeeeeeeee, Mazda gave the 3 more go-go juice than they did my car! Waaaaaaah! Waaaaaaaah!

Gawd I hate these power threads. But at least they flush out who's a real car enthusiast and who's just a magazine-reading poser.

I submit we have a special day for the frustrated horsepower ******. Just like Miata.net -- they use Tuesdays for the "Miata is a gay car" threads.

Maybe we can use Sunday for the "Rx-8 has no power" threads.

Not all fwd cars are powerful enough to create torque steer. Of Course, I have no Idea how the ms3 will drive but with those #'s, it looks plausible. I'm sure it will be a blast to drive regardless.

agreed, i've driven a modified gti before, not sure about the numbers but it did create a minor amount of torque steer. not enough to drive me crazy though -_-

Co-sign on that!

If people only knew how to drive this car......there would be fewer of these "Rx-8 has no power" threads. Just like i said in my earlier post, You won't win them all...but if you know how to drive you won't lose them all either.- referring to racing, or high manuverability with the 8.

Let's go off topic for a moment....

Considering Mazda's fun to drive, zoom zoom nature...shouldn't they just change to only RWD cars...or AWD as an option?

Since RWD is making such a strong comback, wouldn't it make sense for Mazda to change over from FWD to RWD cars? It's not like their FWD midsize (Mazda6) get's such great gas miliage with their I-4 or V6...so wouldn't it better fit Mazda's fun to drive nature to switch over to RWD?

Gosh...I'd love to see what Mazda could do with a V8.

Problem....people who live up north, RWD is a problem to drive in the snow/ice.
I would love to see all car manufactures go this route, but the manufactures have to look out for the "unskilled" and novice drivers out there. Ths making a FWD car.

Well, the reason they went to FWD was because they could avoid the loss (I hear it's like 30%) of having an axle (driveshaft??) drive the rear wheels with a front mounted engine. So...they were able to get more power out of smaller engines which saved them money.

FWD in snow is normally better, but that's not the main reason for it really.

I could be wrong of course...

How so? I am sure the 3 and 6(excluding the V6) doesn't share any mechanical parts just like any other manufacture FWD variants. BMW makes a killing selling RWD cars , so what is there niche to sucess?
