The real upgrade is in the flood prevention programming.

This letter is Mz's attempt to avoid as many "no start" conditions this winter.

I got the letter. My RX-8 has been absolutely perfect for 14 months. I wonder if I should even bother to get the PCM updated.

I just got my letter today and they took me right in at my local Mazda dealership. They had to check to verify that I had not already had the latest reflash. Took just a few minutes and I was back on my way. YES! I too noticed an immediate difference to the better. Much smoother and quicker low end acceleration. The sticker they applied did not give a letter (L or M or whatever) - just indicates the 3/22/04 service which I believe is the M service. I have never had a flooding problem because I have always been very careful to fully warm up the engine before shutting down. The service repr. told me this is no longer necessary, but I wonder.... I think I will continue to let it fully warm up if possible.

Just noticed something else. Since I got the reflash, my security indicator light is working. I am sure I would have noticed it before, but apparently it was not working and I did not realize it. Anyone else get the reflash and then notice this change? I did a search on the forum and found a couple other messages from people who just noticed the flashing security indicator light for the first time, but not connected to having the PCM reflash done. Is this possible?

No, I thought about that later - the letter says they will put a replacement page in the manual. They didn't do that but I kept the letter with the revised de-flooding instructions in the Mazda folder with the manual.

Got my letter, had mine done today. I immediately noticed the improvement in torque at lower rpm's. Good upgrade; definitely worth it! Now I'm going to watch to see if it has any effect on gas mileage.

I've received my letter and have made an appointment for next week. They'll be addressing this issue, the brake squeal TSB, PLUS I get a free loaner. How cool is that?

they didnt put a sticker in my manual either. They didnt even ask about it? It makes you wonder why would Mazda put out a letter describing what the procedure would be and how they would put the sticker in the manual and then the dealer doesnt do it? Is it all dealers or just mine? btw I never got the sticker in the engine compartment for the L-flash either when I had that done 6 months ago. I know they did it cuz I stould with the tech and watched him plug in the computer and download the software.

You can also pump your brake pedal 20 times while the ignition is in the "on" position, and if your oil needle sweeps, you know you at least have the L flash. Old news; just thought I'd bring it back up

Just go to the dealer and have them take care of it. You don't need the letter. Dealers have been required to perform this service for several months now, long before the letter came out.

I got the letter...I am going in on Monday and have them do the AC, the brakes, and the PCM. And maybe the oil if the price is right. I will have a loaner car and a smile on my face.

I got the letter too, even though I had the M flash done months ago. On the other hand, Mazda never sent me anything about recalls. If they're gonna be selective about what they send me, I'd prefer that they not omit the really important stuff.

Exclamation

Hi,

Received M flash notice from Mazda the other day. I needed oil change and brake warning light came on so I decided to bring car in yesterday. Supposedly already got M flash back in June with AC recall. Never got any sticker or any documentation that flash was done, just that AC was done. But manager promised flash was done.

Now there is a completely new staff at dealership. So when I bring car in I just mention that I am entitled to the Schedule 2 maintenance and please check brakes and also show him the mflash notice from Mazda. Manager checks computer and says okay for oil change and that I also NEED TO GET THE M FLASH. Do you think I was LIED TO back in June?

Now paperwork shows oil change N/C; PCU reflash N/C; topped off brake fluid N/C, but when I get home still no sticker under hood.

What's a girl to think?

When I got my reflash back in June, I went to a different dealership than the one I usually go to, and they put the sticker on the drivers side door frame under the windscreen. The dealership I normally go to has done the various recall work, and they never put any stickers anywhere indicating that they in fact did the work. I do have the paperwork that says everything has been done so far... On this latest letter-go-round though, I haven't yet received anything. But I do have to take into account that the Pony Express is a little slow in delivering here...

From what I know they updated this old M Flash with a new revised one. Take a look! Second to bottom, it has revised on it. http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ocs/index.html
