Anyone get this letter from Mazda
OK i admit i didnt try searching...
I just received a letter from mazda(i guess you could consider it a recall) for me to go to the dealer and get reflashed. I have L but not M or N or what ever flash they got going now.
Personally I was really happy with the results of the L flash from the previous flash the car came with.
After reading threads about people getting flashed and unhappy with the results I 'm wondering if anyone would keep the L and not get the M?

Get it, you will like it as soon as drive away you will find more torqe on the bottom end. Your PCM will learn your driving habits and you will find it rev more like an electric motor....

Every update to the PCM should be done period. Think of it this way: Would you still be running Windows 1.0 on a DOS platform? I think not. Mazda is trying to get this right - just give them time. This is the rebirth of the rotary engine, and they have to deal with issues as they surface as the car matures into the year 2004 and beyond.

I got the letter, and I had the M-flash done months ago. My car's already at the dealership (has been for over three months now getting collision damage repaired) so I'll just call 'em tomorrow and tell them to do that to the car while they have it.

in sweden im not sure. the letters may even be different. they are in Australia. best way is to go to your dealer and ask them to show you what level you PCM is on and if that is the current level.

According to the TSB, there's supposed to be a sticker under the front edge of the hood, I just looked, mine's there. The latest "N flash" is just to make sure everyone got the M flash, and that it was recorded correctly both in the database, and on the car, hence the sticker. The sticker should say MSP04 for the M flash. Now that's for Mazda USA, not sure about Europe or Aus.
Petrus: you should be able to look for the sticker, if there isn't one, call the service dept and ask what level the car is at, you might need to give them the VIN if it isn't where you bought it from.

i just got around to reading the whole letter- i didnt recieve a copy in the mail yet- and i noticed something very interesting. it says:
In the near future, you will receive a video program detailing the unique
characteristics of the rotary engine, including warming the engine to normal operating temperature, and starting a flooded engine.
so if we dont get this letter will we not get the video? grr.. id like to have one for my RX-8 stuff collection. :D also the letter says they will be updating our manuals with a revised flooded engine starting procedure.

Got my MNAO letter in the mail today as well. I asked to have my PCM reflashed to M about two months ago. I did the oil needle test successfully afterward. Still haven't seen a noticeable improvement in mileage, though. The letter may have been sent out according to older records and Mazda just wants to make sure they cover their ***.

I too have received the M flash a couple months ago and knew they had done the flash because the power curse was different. Yet here today I got my letter too.
I really dont think it is an M M flash.

Yeah I just got that letter today and have to make an appointment. My 8 was built in 02/04 so its needs to be done from what Mazda is saying. Does it help the performance in the 8?
