Anybody recently trade in their 2004 8's (interested in Trade-in values)

Well I hate saying it. But the ownership of my 8 is looking to be soon short ended. I've loved the car for the past 2 and half years that I have had it. I'm looking to most likely trade it in the summer(not risking private sale).

So has anyone who still posts here recently have traded their 8 in remember the value the dealerships gave you. I know that it will be varied based on mileage.

I've looked at autotrader and I know thats a bunch of HOOOPLAHHH.

I have a Velocity Red Mica
Grand Touring Package
Red/Black interior
small dents on the hood from hail or golf ***** at work not sure.
One more majorish(lovely english) dent on driver door that i've had since I got the car.

Other than that it's very clean.

It also has navigation and the spare tire kit.
I have about 42,500 miles on her right now.

I'm thinking a value of a ballpark of $9,000.

Reasons for why I may sell for those who wish to know.
-I'm in college and it is taking abuse on my baby.
-I need something a little more fuel efficient (My school is about 80 miles from my house, its a good portion of a tank of gas round trip). (I'm averaging like 16-17mpg on the highway, yes I have tried cruise control. But doing like 75mph is gas guzzling range)
-I know the car is going to need a new clutch eventually, brakes, calipers, spark plugs, and other "normal" maintenance. But I'd rather get rid of the car before all that work needs to be done. Since it will be a decent chunk of money.
-I need a car that can handle in the snow and icy conditions. (I'm in the Lehigh Valley, PA, where the weather changes every 15 minutes). We got 6 inches of snow the other day.

Thanks
-

I traded mine 2 years ago for 11k with 30k miles on it. Pristine like new.

They have taken a good hit since then it looks like... and I thought that was low back then! The current rebates are doing you no favors right now, unless you want a new 8 LOL.

With the body damage I am guessing 9k private 6kish trade. I know that isn't what you want to hear... hopefully I am wrong for your sake.

I traded mine in last june. Had about 60K miles, pretty good condition with some light wear and tear, and got about 13" for it. (For the record, worst move ever, I'm now looking at buying a new one.)

I tried to trade mines in last month and it was worth 7500 to 8500 depending on the dealership.

It had pretty much the same thing as your but without nav.

04 manual w/ 37K miles.

You will get more selling it yourself.

Selling a car used is a piece of cake. I've sold one and bought two used. Just make sure you have the title and all.

You are not going to get 9K for it, 8K if lucky on first offer,

Yea. It is easy.

Just call the bank and have them order you the title. Once it gets there, get a bill of sale going and have the buyer meet you at the branch. Once he pays off the car then just sign over the title.

That is if you owe money on the car.

My friend traded in her 04 about 6 months ago at the toyota dealer up here and they gave her 10 or 11k for it, and it was the base base model and no recalls ever done, and it had about 40k on the odom. Remember though, when you buy all those new parts, it part of making the car all new again instead of having to start all over and eventually running into the same problems with another car you might just not like like the 8.

Honestly, by not even trying to do a private party sale you are losing out on atleast $4000 if not more.

I bought mine new in 04. Can't imagine getting rid of it after years of enjoyment while adding the mods I wanted on the car. Hmm, let me think about this for a second, so your offering me WHAT, 6,500. and some change......hmm---------------------------------NO!

WHen it comes to trade-in keep in mind what the deal is that you are getting for the next car. It is an equation that the dealer will always want to come up tops. So if you get $$$ discount on a toyota, you can be sure the dealer will rape you on the trade in. It is the same for any car. Basic economics at play. Applies to all brands of car. You should see the trade in value of a 911 turbo or a 7-series or an EVO. Makes you wonder why bother.
Private sale is best always if you have the time. All the best.

You probably can get more selling it yourself, but there's a tax angle (at least in some states) that gives a distinct advantage to trading it in, if you can get a good price.

We just (six weeks ago) traded in our 2004 RX-8 on a brand new 2010 WRX wagon. Our car was in absolutely pristine condition, with 26,000 miles on the ticker. We got $11,500 in trade, after beating the dealer down to a couple hundred dollars over invoice for the WRX. Washington law charges sales tax only on the net price, so we saved almost 9% on the $11,500 trade, making the net benefit to us about $12,500.

Note that we settled on a cash price for the new car before we even talked about trade-in on the old car, to keep the two deals separate.

Being as how it reflects so negatively on you, rather than on the WRX (or whatever car you may choose to so mindlessly bash next time), I can't say I am terribly bothered, but I am curious as to what you intended to accomplish with your idiotic comment....

Enjoy your car; but, more important, if dissing other fine cars helps you enjoy your car more, have at it.

80 miles each way to school? You could rent an apartment near your school and come out cheaper if you are having to drive that everyday.

Well I live on campus actually. SO i don't commute daily.

But I'm just looking for an average price of what people have been offered. I know Private Sale is always more money. But I'd be looking for a quick sale. The economies hitting the ******* and a trade in is sometimes the easiest option provided I am never really home and the diffculty to do a private sale.

I'm over 60k miles on my 04. I bet it's not even worth 8k on a private sell. But that's alright. I knew what I was getting into when I bought a Mazda, and never intended to get rid of this anyway. Hard to imagine I've been driving the same car for 6 years. But I guess a recession will do that to ya...and a great car too.
