Hey Everybody. This is my first post on this forum and I have been thoroughly checking out the RX-8's specs as it may become a potential car fo rme in the very near future. I saw that it had a 9k redline and that blew me away. The styling is very eye catching... ok, now for the real question. Do any of you RX-8 owners play hockey? I am concerned about the size of my bag (thank goodness I only play right ring and not goalie haha) and two sticks that I usually bring to my games and scrimages. I wonder if my sticks could fit on the sides of the doors or throwing them in the back. Just to let you guys know, my other consideration is the Acura TSX. I have been reading up on rotary as one of my friends with an RE Amemiya tuned boosted RX-7 got me interested so my curiousity drives me. The styling is more daring but I need to know about cargo/cabin space to boil down my decision. When I go test drive, I'm sure it'll be a blast.

When I looked at the trunk, my first concern was the golf clubs (which fit just fine) but I didn't even consider my hockey stuff.

Come to find out the biggest problem is with the trunk is that it's only about 12" wide for entry, so unless I take stuff out, cram it in, and then repack, the trunk doesn't work.

Plently of room in the back seat for the bag, and the sticks go right through the "pass through" with ease.

Just have to remember to bring a towel to cover the seats and to prevent scratches on the plastic (if you breath on it the wrong way you'll scratch it)

Edit: Actually, if you move the passengers seat all the way back, you should also have plenty of room for your stuff...plus it keeps the wife/GF from coming to the games so you can have the occassional "soda pop" with your friends after the game

I use long sticks and they do fit in on the sides. i also fit 2 bags on the rear seats and the trunk can stay empty. it's actually easier to fit them in the seats as the trunk opening is kinda small.

TSX was my other consideration...

not even close. Rear wheel drive nothing beats it.

Gofoward: You know the funny thing is when you're with an awesome team (win or lose), drinking is always fun but when you get on a team when people barely show up for games and you're down a couple guys and barely have enough players for 2 lines, it sucks... btw, my gf likes going out with me and the team from last season so its a plus

T-Ren: Thanks for the insight. I'm still going to test drive the TSX just cause its on top of my priority list. I won't be carrying many passengers so the backseat is almost worthless. The backseat on my 98 Accord Coupe V6 has been sat in maybe 5 or 6 times in the past 6 years so yeah, its still in immaculate condition.

hey mobilezen ... I don't have the 8 yet but am really close to getting it. I had my GOALIE equipment in my car when i went to the dealership. They let me put my stuff into the demo model. Had to put my leg pads and the rest of the equipment in separately into the trunk but they fit! I think in the future, the leg pads go into the back seat and the rest in the trunk. The stick will sorta fit with some creative cramming.

I rarely take the equipment in the 8 (thats what my Suby is for), but if I have to it fits just fine. I just throw the bag in the back and the sticks fit alright in the back as well. Just watch out as in a moment of laziness I scratched the paint on the inside of the rear door with the blade of a stick. But that was my error, not because of a lack of room.

I have only had my car a few weeks now,and have yet to put my gear in there,but I can back up the rest of the guys on here and say you best bet would be put the stuff in the back seat.The trunk is actually a good size for a "sports car",but like the others have said the opening is small.Good luck in your decision.We all know what it will be after you drive them both.HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH!!!!

Thanks for the info guys (& gals if any here ). The TSX and RX-8 are very different cars. Horsepower does not mean as much to me as handling characteristics and styling. AutoX is definitely on my mind thought. I don't plan on taking my car to the track every weekend or anything like that. I just love the twisties and a car that will push the g's around the turns. With regards to hp, I think 238 is more than enough. One of my friends wants to buy my car actually and if he does, then I will have about 10-14k to put as a down payment. I'd liket o reserve about 3-4k in mods including suspension, a simple wing and wheels...everything after that is eye candy so please pray to the rx-8 gods for me, I'm going in soon haha.

RECENTLY SOME OF YOU PEOPLE HAVE BEEN CHATTING ABOUT TRUNK SPACE FOR HOCKEY EQUIPMENT.MY MAIN CONCERN IS,WHAT ABOUT WINTER IS IT OKAY TO DRIVE IN WINTER.SNOW,ICE,SLUSH,SALT,GRAVEL...OUCH POOR CAR.

In Texas, we don't get 4 seasons...we get something along the lines of 2.5 maybe 3 at most. Then we also get ice and its like black ice as they call it but still, I need to get out of here asp, this city is eating me up.
