Any Data on the RX8 Auto Tranny?

A co-worker is interested in an RX8, but wants an AT. Is there any info on performance with the AT, or even the gearing?

Thanks (I did a search but came up with too much to look thru alluvit)

Translation: I don't want to bother doing the legwork so I want someone else to do it for me? That isn't going to win you many points. Dig through the press release (available elsewhere on this site) and see what you can find.

I've searched the forums, and didn't see the real 90% sure results. Some person said like 0-60 in 8.5 seconds, but I dont know, that sounds more like a protege than rx8. I mean being about 300 pounds lighter than mazda6 and almost same HP and torque, I dont think it's slower than mazda6 auto. Anybody please post some RX8 auto 0-60 times. I want to see something under 7 seconds. lol. Or at least under 7.5 seconds.

Remember, final HP/Tq numbers have not been released for either engines, yet. So noone is going to know the official answer yet.

Well manual has been released yet. Car & driver tested the production 6 speed manual 250 HP mazda RX8 and got 0-60 in 5.9 seconds. I'm sure RX8 auto is fast as well. Mazda is not stupid to make 4 speed auto 2.5 seconds behind the 6 speed manual. I mean, somebody must have tested 4 speed auto in this world. Japanese people probably already got RX8 so they should have been able to test it.

the way i understand the rollout for production vehicles is that the japanese market won't have them for about another 2 weeks.

Ok, but still, somebody in this world must have test drove automatic RX8 0-60. I mean they knew manual was gonna be around 6 seconds since like november or something.

Car and Driver did not test any production version, needless to say any U.S. production versions (which haven't even rolled off the line yet).

Yes, they did. I have video for it. Do you want me to upload it so you can watch it? Let me know.

Haris, everything we have heard, read or seen so far has been from PRE-production models. Production has not and will not begin for some time for all markets except Japan. And the Japanese production models (as far as I know) have not been reviewed yet.

Well the one on car and driver probably was the production model. I mean I am 100% sure it's not concept nor Xmen car. What else could it be? Maybe like a demo car from mazda or something?? I dunno...

I think that you might be confusing some terms here. A production car refers to one of the thousands that come off of the assembly line, while a pre-production car is one that is mostly hand-assembled before assembly line production has a chance to begin, and is used for testing and demos for magazines such as Car and Driver, and for industry test-drives like Laguna Seca earlier this year, and for display at car shows.

The results that Car and Driver got will be close to the final results. Heck, after everything is said and done, they might happen to be right on. But, there are still a few things that they "tune" on the car before production begins (especially in this day of complex engine and emission management).

Ok, thanks for explaining me pre-production and production vehicles.

Did they make any Pre-Production Automatic RX8s for anybody to test drive them?
