Unhappy Another tip for new RX-8 Owner?

Today I rear ended my other car without driving it!!!

I was enjoying my daily spirited drive and decide to wash it afterwards. Stopped and switch off engine and put it in gear one so I won't warped my rear brakes. After few hours, being a lazy and forgetful idiot I started the car as I stood by the window. Instead of stalling, the car moves and rear ended my other car, bumper damaged whereas the 8 developed a kink next to the mazda emblem, who knows what it hit inside. There goes my beautiful day.

In order to start the car you must press on the clutch pedal. How did you do what you say?

Obviously not, would it not jump forward with the starter motor, anywhoo, hope the dmg is not too costly

The starter motor will not operate unless the clutch pedal is depressed. There is a cutoff switch on the pedal that disables power to the starter.

Back off, ladies....

Only North American '8s have the clutch interlock.

I'm guessing Mr. Yiksing is not "from around here".

I think he tried to say that

he put it in gear one

started the car and "forgot" that hes actually in "the first gear"

he let the clutch go then the car just "goooosh" and rear ended his other car and his "8" stopped.

He clearly said he started the car from the window.. so i dont see how he could've had his foot on the clutch... unless of course he is very flexable

The specs here in my country doesn't need the clutch depressed to be started apparently, I was surprised that the car didn't stall.

Is there anyone here who has removed their front bumper before coz I wanna know what is behind the front bumper (directly behind the mazda emblem), wanna check whether anything was damaged inside that might have caused the small kink or whatever u call it. I had thought there was some kind of shock absorbing foam (in that case the bumper shouldn't have been stretched to cause a kink unless a ractangular was there instead). The bumper was hit directly on the license plate where the front mesh was pushed inwards.

Go to the thread at the link below for instructions on how to remove the front bumper. It is not difficult.

If there is front bumper damage, there could be damage to the VFAD duct, depending on how hard the bump was.

There's foam back there too, but I doubt you hit hard enough to damage it. That crap's expensive to replace too.

Clutch interlock or no, pressing the clutch while starting is part of the proper way to start a manual car. Never start any car without sitting in the driver's seat. You need to have access to the brake just in case.
