Another One Bites The Dust

Well, went to fire it up today....just turned over, but wouldnt start. Didnt turn on & then off or anything of that nature. Attempted the "de-flood" procedure...no luck. I made sure my dealer did the MFLASH before I signed the paperwork )which was a whopping 3 weeks ago )...so now I am driving a Nissan Sentra. Man this flooding thing sucks...especially with winter coming. Im even afraid to take friends on trips in it, especially long ones, because Im never sure my damn car will start. 3 weeks & I already had the potential to be stranded. Should I expect this often? Thank god it happened in my driveway...I mean, what if I was down in Detroit, and it was too late to get an open dealer or a loaner. Grrrrrr... sorry, just venting.

Have no clue what the problem is. Saw someone had faulty coils and this could be it. Let us know what the dealer says about this. This is not good when its your car that will not start. Hang in there.

Please take part in my poll. I flooded too after the "M" flash even though I didn't before I had it. Drove my car all winter long last year where temps were down to -25*F.

I had mine for 8 months now. Never flooded. I sometime just move a car a couple hundred yards and shut it off. It always starts right up.

Manual. And my car had a great rev when you first started it...it went to like 2500rpm then sloooowwwly back to 1500 or so. So I know I had the flash. They asked me what # they could reach me at tomorrow, so they must think it just flooded. But FYI, as I was talking to the service rep, another rep handed him a set of keys and said "Are you working on this guys RX? Well, heres another set of keys to the silver RX outside...its ANOTHER cranks but no start". Looks like its an epidemic. I like this car allot, but Im keeping my service records...3 times & these guys will be getting it right back..Ill even tie a ribbon around it....damn it.......

They all rev to 2500 and back down to 1500 when you first start them- mine's done that since the day I bought it last August, when there was no mflash. Perhaps it somehow slipped through the M-Flash cracks, or it's something else, like coils.....

Damn, my nearest service dept. is 60 miles away. If this is a crapshoot its ridiculous. Hard to drive a brand new car around and wonder if its going to start.

People always talk about "winter" does this really make a diff. in flooding?

Seems like it doesn't matter some people have it happen in the dead heat of summer and others in the winter, am I right?

Not sure if BAM's car is M-flashed but only have read 2 other cases where people's M-flashed 8's have flooded.

93rdcurrent's poll says 3

My service sheet, under service history, confirms both the Mflash and airbag recall were done. So I dont know, maybe it just didnt take.

Sorry for your misfortune, don't know what to tell you. I would be squeamish too if it happened to me. All I can say is that I've been driving mine sine July 31, 2003, and have had ZERO flood issues nor does it cross my mind (anymore).

Yeah, not good news obviously. Be sure to report back what the problem was as soon as you find out.

Seeing a pic of a new 8 being put on the tow truck isn't a pretty sight.

Please don't start rumor, we all already know that Silver is cursed... (do a search on "curse sunlight silver", if you don't believe me).

As the victim of 2 floods over the past 13 months, I know how it feels. So far, since the M flash and warmer weather, no problems. Now that it is getting cold again, we'll see what happens. Flooding doesn't seem to happen often, but when it does, it can be very inconvenient. The starting procedure works, but I drained the battery in my attempts to start the car. If I wasn't home, that would have neccesitated a tow.

I had one flood pre-M-Flash, but got the car started with the starting procedure after letting it sit for an hour without attempting a start. Then promptly took it to the dealer where I got it flashed. No problems since - starts first time, every time, after about 3 seconds of cranking.

Maybe it's the luck of the Yellow. God smiles on Yellow RX-8s ... they are the color of sunshine!

Ok, that was lame ...

Bah. Flooding, especially now, is extremely rare. That's why it's an event that gets posted - and how many new 'I flooded' posts do you see? Again, very few. I've had my 8 since July 22, 2003, and never had it flood. That includes a nice Canadian winter.

Regards,
Gordon

Gordon, just a quick question for ya... do you usually park your car outside during work or home, while it's -15 to -25 for at least 8 hours a day? (and I assume you don't have a block heater of any type)
