87 is considered Regular in NJ, I use 89 which is the mid-grade(Plus). I only use Premium at the track.

If you don't mind, after you replace the fuel pump, can you post here who makes the OEM pump? If its Denso, I don't see why you would need to replace it... I've seen Denso pumps go 300-500K without an issue.. And thats not even on mostly HWY miles! Even some FD owners go well over 150+K without replacing the fuel pump (I have stock pump on my FD with just over 100K... and I been pushing pretty hard last 20K miles (avg. 13MPG or less). Also, since its N/A, I don't think it will harm the engine as much as FI engine if fuel cuts...

Nice, expo. I am not far behind and soon I'll be the next 100,000 mile RX8 with basically no problems.

On the FD's was the fuel filter aslo a part of the filter? My guess is Mazda wants the pump replaced @ 100,000 because of the filter? I looked all over the pump and couldn't find the word Denso. I only found a name that I think is "AKKAM" in two spots.

Question

How much does the stock fuel pump cost? is there any aftermarket ones that might work better for about the same price?

Thumbs up

Congrats on the 100,000+
Your log is pretty nice I think I'm going to copy you
Correct me if I'm wrong Expo but you haven't changed your belts yet or did I just miss that one. If not then thats pretty damn amazing! With more cars like yours our resale value just might increase It would be nice if your car had a turbo on it and still did as well!

Good to hear something positive about the RX 8 on this board! I've got 56,xxx miles so far and have had none of the problems that most complain about.

Good preventitive maintenance goes a long way these days.

You can get a stock pump for around $140, there are no cost effective aftermarket ones.

just found the thread and know you are well past the 100k mark and glad to see the stock cat is doing good with the premix.

curious though as I didn't see anywhere on your list that you might have replaced the coils and have been hearing talk about people replacing them lately. still on the originals? also seems like you where doing plugs around 25-30k right?

In my attached maintenance log I mention changing the coils while at Pocono Raceway in an attempt to fix a High RPM misfire issue. That wasn't the problem so I could have still ran on the OEM coils but changing them when I did was not a bad idea. As for the plugs, yes I like to do them around the 35,000 mark. So far the only issue I have is at the track. I have a oil leak in my front seal that only is an issue during long, 20+ minute high rpm runs on tracks like Watkins Glen. I guess expecting 2.5 hours of track time in a weekend it a bit taxing for my 106,000 mile RX-8. But around town it still pulls strong and runs fine for anything I would do on a public road.

Not really, Exit 80 on the Garden State Parkway. Why do you think the belt is on wrong?

well, Im still not 100% sure if I tighten my Idle Pulley belt right.

I loosen it back to about 1/2 way. It seems to be fine right now. Just not 100% sure.

Thats how you get 100,000 miles in less than 4 years. That's also how you get an affordable house in New Jersey.

You can't be at 100,000 miles. Rotaries aren't reliable! Didn't you get the memo?

Nice !

Hey expo1, is there a thread of cars over 100k? I saw another thread a couple of days ago I posted in, https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...7&postcount=38. But I was curious how many cars have actually passed this mark... I can't imagine there are more then a few of us.

Well expo is getting his engine redone by Mazmart, so he won't be part of the 100,000 mile group anymore! But I will!!
