Another 100,000 Mile RX-8 on the Road!
Just went over the 100,000-mile mark and thought a thread was in order. My 8 was an early build (5/2003) which I picked up February of 2004. During the this time I have had no major problems, enjoy my car as much as I did in 2004 even though the sales and service aspect of the dealership was sometimes aggravating. Because of this car I have about 30 hours of track time. I also found this place and try to be as helpful to others as this site has been to me. If a so-called “troublesome “ 5/03 built 8 can go 100,000 miles with no major problems I don’t see way most of them can’t. I did have a compression check done a few weeks ago and the results were not bad for a 8 with my mileage. I will try to see if I can hit 200,000 miles in 2011. I used the maintenance log feature of www.mazdausa.com to keep track of things, that is attached as a zip file. I thought some people might like to see that.
Now some random notes.
Never Flooded, Original trans, motor & starter. Never broke a visor but an A/C **** did crack fixed with Krazy Glue. Brakes only squeal when my track pads are on. My OEM rotors lasted over 95,000 & the Clutch 86,000 miles and I could have gone longer on both. If I baby it I can get over 21 MPG. I have only had 4 CEL’s; two were misfires on the track. The others were for a bad gas cap and a stuck secondary intake valve. Since I have dedicated tires for the winter and the track I am only on my second set of street tires. I am also only on my second set of street pads, I use different ones on the track. Been using Royal Purple 5w 30 since about 70,000 and Idemitsu premix since 68,000. Red Line fluids are in the trans and rear. If I think or more stuff I will edit this and any questions about having a 100,000 mile RX-8 are welcome.
More Notes:
The original CAT is still on the car. I run 89 octane name brand gas almost all the time. My original engine mounts are still on, but I do have new ones waiting just in case.

Expo, you're one of the good guys here so beers on me if you ever make it to Kanada
Nice milestone; that's 160000kms by the way (sounds better). Not bad for a trackday toy, really surprised about the rotors keeping spec for that long. Tranny doesn't grind?

Most of my miles come from my 80 mile round trip to work which is mostly highway. Can't wear the brakes if you don't use them much. I think that also goes for the trans. most of the time I am in 5th or 6th. The yearly change of the trans fluid helps too.

Congrats! I just started my journey. I am about to do my first oil change. Any other tips for a newcomer?
Also was the fuel pump failing at 100k? I have been letting my tank go down very low so thinking perhaps I am stressing it by doing this. I am thinking of starting to fill up when I have 1/4 tank left instead.

Not as much as I should, it is hard to do on the congested roads of New Jersey. I think that is why I had the CEL for the secondary intake valve being stuck. After that I started driving one gear lower than I normally would and more redlines entering hwys. I also used to go to the track at least 4x a year which made a big difference. Four hours on a track like Watkins Glen is like hit a speed to the RX-8. This year do to personal issues I had to cut back on the track time.

Mazda recomends the pump be changed at 100,000 miles. I am doing it for that reason and last month I had a a misfire / loss of power issue on Pocono Raceway. I think I took care of the misfire issue with the PCM / E-shaft reset & the new coils. The fuel pump could have also been the issue and since I am at the miles where I should replace it why not.

Hi guys!
I just bought my Rx-8. She had 90,000kms on the clock and now im about 10kms off hitting the 100,000 mark. im in the same situation at expo (although i know 100 miles is more then 100 kms. but still...)
My baby is a late delivery 03 as well. first everything - mostly. third set of tyres and still first brakes etc. there is hardly any wear on anything and there is only 1 tiny parking dint on the door. The guy who had it before me was an older gent who just drove her to work and back... all highway Ks...
its a great car and im not having any problems with her.
very happy. and loving this club

Great to hear and congrats. Thanks for all of the info - this kind of real-world data are great to hear especially to a relative RX-8 noob who sees a lot of negative posts and not enough good ones like this.
Cheers
