Am I spoiled?

Am I spoiled?
I'm 16 and got a 2007 RX8 we bought it wrecked for $1800, that's the only thing my dad is paying for and I'm paying the next 4-5 thousand for the repairs and paint. My question is.. am I spoiled? This has been bothering me, I have been researching and I know how to treat my rx8 well. I'm a good kid, never been suspended have a 3.0 gpa and don't drink or do drugs:P I still feel like I don't deserve such an awesome car. I'm in love with it!

Welcome to the club, and make sure you read the stickies and the new to the forum threads. This is a very expensive car to maintain as it is. If you can repair it (it's a lot of money for you to pay) and actually get it run well... Then go for it, but that is a pretty tough mission to get yourself into. For about $7k you could have gotten an 04' still running.
Lol man, if you'd consider yourself to be spoiled for getting a wrecked Rx8 for that amount, then I don't know what you'd think of me. Good luck!

It's already repaired all we have to do is prime and paint. I'm so hyped for this car! I'm planning to work 20 hours on school weeks and full time during the summer. I think I will have the money by next year

Voted not spoiled and cool dad to get you involved in a project where you will learn about repairing the car, and most likely value it.
I am 46 and just purchased an 09 RX8 and was excited like jdfd3s above.
My son purchased his first 2 cars with his own money, I have offered help wrenching on them and in some cases purchased parts for him as a surprise. Recent purchase was a lightweight flywheel when he purchased a clutch for his E30.
There is a member here that bought the same car I did for his teenage son and gave it to him. A lot of parents do that, I was brought up different end have strong feelings about having your kid earn what they have, they respect it more.
Your dad did a cool thing, congrats and enjoy, you are going to know that car from one end to the other when you are done.

It's a great life skill to know a fair amount about cars (though not necessarily a rotary). When I was 16, I bought a seized engine Mercedes 180a for $65, then rebuilt the engine over the next year. As a result of that experience, I can not only do most of my own repairs at a substantial discount from having them done, I can effectively deal with shops without getting ripped off. Additionally, it's allowed me to drive older cars without a lot of maintenance cost or the burden of car payments and high insurance premiums for new(er) ones. At the price of some personal time, car wrenching skills have saved ~$100,000 over ~40 years of driving.
So +1. Good luck!

OP-be grateful... im 17 drive an 04 and my parents dont even give a cent for my insurance or gas. Instead my dad doesnt take my advice and puts off his oil change for 1500+ miles on his 6.0L powerstroke excursion and then asks me to rebuild the damn thing now that it doesnt start

Can 16 year olds legally drive in the US?
Baran - definitely not spoiled. And working on it together with your dad is definitely cool.

E30? you should disown him before you have to put the clutch in! those cars are horrible to work on. although they look cool.
50's? i've had a 67 250s and a 71 300SEL 3.5 (what a car that is!), my brother had a 63 220s, and we've both hankered for the older ones, although so far the fintail is the best.

the Rx8 is especially like this, they need to come apart to fix and clean the little stuff

I live in Evansville, and I didn't get to take apart the engine or the transmission but I did take apart everything else with my dad:P unfortunately my dad works in construction and there are no projects for him to build so we're going to have to hold off on painting. SO CLOSE! :/

Thanks! My school is giving me an opportunity to gets some college credits in auto service, I'll be taking apart engines, transmissions, oil changes, anything that could go wrong in a car for the next 2 years (sophomore in high school) really excited

I don't care what car it is, if you have to work to fix it, then you're not spoiled.
Just be careful cause at 16 sports cars can make you think you're more experienced than you are.
