Airbag light on, known problem?

So the past few days my airbag light has been on while driving, I took it into the dealer on friday, they didnt have time ot fix it then, but I asked what was wrong to get some more information. The guy said it was a Wiring harness causing the light to come on. Didn't really ask anymore detail after that.

I took the car back today, and th dealer said they weren't sure if it would be done, so I asked for more detail as to why. Apparently there is a harness somewhere that has to be fixed that involves removing the 2 front seat and the center console. He told me that this is a problem that mazda is well aware of.

I didn't see anything in the TSB's nor anything similar to this from the search. Has anyone else heard of this?

Check the harness connections under the right front seat. Mine comes on everytime someone sits in the back!

It's been a long time (fall 2003), but I'd swear the wiring harness was originally a part of an early recall. I know mine was worked on.

Wow, just flipping through my service paperwork, I found it. On May 27, 2004, my dealer performed recall 1604B (air bag harness). This was performed with recall 1704B (dynamic damper).

Hope that helps.

I just had this done - f'ing nasty repair - the entire dash comes out, plus the a-pillar covers, and both seats. 4 days and then it took them more than 2 weeks to sort out the issues caused by the repair.

That said, it's necessary - when they checked/tested my system, it turned out that one entire side of the airbag circuit was completely dead.

I just had a thread about this - search on my name and read the whole thing.

Gotta thank goodness that you did not need that air bag for any reason for that would be one hella of a law suit for not being called out by mazda!

yup -- i just had my airbag harness replaced yesterday. I took it in and told them it was coming on randomly they did some tests and ordered it.

My experience at Hiley Mazda of Hurst TX was great this time. Had a brake job done along with a brake flush. They went above and beyond becase even though I didnt know it or complain about it my motor mounts were going bad and they fixed that too! Even gave me a ride back to my place while they worked on it for 4 hours.

A+++

Yeah that recall was a long time ago. I didn't think there would still be an 8 out there that didn't have it done.

Before I left Texas, my dealership told me that there was a motor mount "upgrade" and asked me if I wanted it done. Of course I said, yes. I guess a lot of them are getting damaged so they came out with something stronger.

I've had that problem for over a year with the airbag light. Dealer told me it was due to my custom subs that were installed. I thought WTF!?!?!? I'm going back now and saying "Hey, fix this in regards to recall....whatever that guy said below." Might as well have them check the motor mounts.
