Air/ Oil Filter Preference
#26
wow why are people dicks to new people on this forum? The guy is asking honest questions and all you say is search? You can inform him that he can search for more answers but atleast give him an answer too. If you said search on my other car forum and treated new people like **** then you would be banned for one day.
Anyways, i have a k & N drop in panel filter. Works good. I don't think the money spent on an intake is worth it.
As far as oil goes, i use a 5w-20 synthetic blend. Seems to be working ok. I just use a pennzoil oil filter because is free from work.

I'm not saying the thread was right for being made, just don't make it even more useless.

By now every fact about the RX-8 has been posted. All that's left is opinions. And conversation.
If you think the OP was out of line, then a complaint should be filed with a moderator.

Really we have no need for a larger oil filter. Especially since we are burning oil in the first place. In regard to the less opnion and more fact here are your facts.
WIX 51365 faster oil flow, 10 micron filtering (highest out of any company), tried and true in the racing community. These guys are responsible for protecting nascar engines, nhra engines, racing boat engines and so forth.
K&N has 25 micron and some 20 micron filtering. Filters at a decent rate but if its a daily driver is no better for you than stock. It is easier get off if your one of those people who feel the need to super tighten a filter. Which is not necessary.
Stock filters are paper just like k&n. They filter at about the same rate and will do you just as good. They cost about the same as well, I think if you buy in bulk stock filters are a dollar cheaper a piece. A lot of places sell them in packs of 4.
Fram filters these days filter in the 25 micron range. Again just as good as stock, but fram was known for leaving out anti back flow valves. They don't do this anymore and in recent lab testing they are just as good as stock. A bit cheaper and the filters don't hold up as well under heavy pressure but if your daily driving and take it fairly easy it wont hurt you.
Mobile one. These are good filters, and highly rated. For good reason. They filter just under 20 microns. At 18-19. So that does technically make them better for stock. These are also better for people with TC or SC engines. They can take 5 times the oil psi than a stock filter. The WIX ones can take a serious beating as well. So if your Forced Induction the WIX or the Mobile one should be your options. Mobile one however uses a hybrid filter which causes it to filter slower. Slow enough it showed during lab testing. The other draw back is that its slower than the glass wix filter.
As far as the WIX filter having a larger model that fits I don't know. I called the WIX R&D department when I was doing my research some time back and the engineer told me it was pointless. They said you don't need a larger filter since the flow rate on the racing filter is already fast being it uses glass. Now with mobile one that might be the case because you have a slower filter.
In the end the choice is really up to you. As long as you stay with major big name brands you should be fine. If your not doing anything special, never hitting the track, and running standard oils save your money. Just have the dealer sell you your oil and filter, and put it in. That saves you from having to find receipts when your engine wears out and its time for a new one. You wont have to dig and scrounge for receipts to prove you did your oil changes.

Fuz, thanks. Also, it looks like everyone can agree that the stock air filters are very well made, so it looks like im going to stick with that. I was just looking under the hood and these cars are no joke. Looks like they used some real quality parts, and my car is completely stock. oil filters probably wont matter, but air filters i am definately going with the stock one. As far as searches go, KEN-X8, you hit the nail on the head. It is really tough and quite random. most of the threads are ragging on one kind of filter with nothing really beyond that. Still a great site and great info.

I use wix for both air and oil filters. Search on youtube and you will find a few videos of guys cutting apart different filters and giving their opinions.

Exactly. The the thread was made, so deal with it. Posting search and a bunch of wise *** remarks isn't going to make the thread better. On my other forum you would have been banned for sayin g search and not being of any help. Doc beech, nice post. Thats the kind of stuff every thread needs. If every thread had some useful info then searching would be easier.

If you will please notice I put the answer to all his questions in post 4. We are now sitting at 46 posts. There has been one post of any use in that 40 post span. Thank you DocBeech
