Yes, yes i know. It is repost worn out threads. Its just hard looking through these old threads from 2003 when someone says "i dont like Frams". Its rough judging what is best for this car when one guy 8 years ago said "dont use this", with no reasoning. I do hate people who post stuff and dont take a minute to view other threads, but i really have looked through and tried to do research. I really wouldnt start a new thread if there was a legitimate answer i found. I dont know where else to post these questions.

I'll answer all the threads you've made today in one post. Stock filter....try 87 and if it works go for it, but if it makes funny noises stick to premium....oil is what you should use for oil

J8635621, thanks again. Im not trying to be a jerk, i just didnt know where to ask these basic questions. A mod told me basic questions go in RX-8 Discussion forum. Ive deleted the other threads so it wont take us the precious domain space as one nice guy wrote. Stock air filter it is. And down goes this one. I really am just curious, and i did a good search site:rx8club.com air filter, and found NOT ONE THREAD on air filter preference, probably because its a basic stupid question, but i am a new owner, you guys know better than me, which is why i joined this forum

I just dont understand why ragging on me about posting something makes sense. If i am on a solar forum which i know a lot about, if someone duplicates a thread, i just dont answer it, as opposed to posting 8 times on it about how the guy who posted it shouldve done better research. Just ignore the post is all i was saying, or dont answer it. I dont understand why in the five seconds like you just did to answer the 3 posts, rather than spending 20 telling me to go read a post from years ago. Thanks again, not sarcastically, appreciated.

I did use the search and found nothing on air filter preference, just posts on installing, selling them, changing, cleaning air filter, etc. I really did look through these for awhile. Then i went to google with that site search as another mod instructed, and same thing. Im not a savvy car guy by any means but in the FAQ's i tried my best to teach myself before asking questions. Perhaps im in over my head on this forum and i should try "cars 101" haha

If you search for "air filter" with the search box up top, you will see i looked all the way to page 11 with nothing about brands or preferences. I will be honest, i didnt look at all 3500 threads, but i figured 11 pages was thorough enough. I even read all the newbie, beginner threads too trying to get a feel for this forum. Im not one of those lazy just ask dumb questions, although i see how it could seem that way. If im taking this long explaining why i was confused then i certainly have the time for a thorough search.

Well first i searched air filter brands, then preference, and searched by threads, not posts, but then almost none of the threads had anything to do w/ air filter brands. I just need to play around with the search more i guess

No i did search for air filter brands and then air filter preference. If someone could help me avoid posting a thread on "how to search" i would appreciate it. What should i have searched other than brand, preference, and air filter to find a more accurate thread?

Ok thanks for your time. Im really not an idiot just not sure how else to search. I did find a post telling "NOT to use K&N", but nothing beyond that. I will try to max out my searches and research before i post in the future. Thanks for the heads up, appreciate your time.

Dear lord OP.

Read this thread until it all makes sense. It answers pretty much everything you've asked and it's recent. Oh it will teach you to hone your search skills too.

I don't run any filters, they are overrated. All they do is restrict air an oil flow and make you lose power anyway.

Absolutely nothing. They're usually better than aftermarket.

Searching this site is kind random. Most topics are so cluttered with junk posts that it's hard to zero in on good info. The clutter is not entirely from newbies asking familiar questions. Half is from people ragging them about that, thus doubling the number of posts that mention the sought after item.

Adam - there is a member here who has a deep interest in oil filters. (I don't remember his ID, and searching might be tough with the clutter.) He has sliced open every one that he can lay his hands on. He found regular Fram and Purolator to be junk. Some premium aftermarket ones are good - maybe someone with a better memory than me can chime in. I just remember two things. One is that K&N are among the good ones and have a nut at the top that makes wrenching a stuck one off easier. The other is that Mazda OEM were also at the top of the heap.

Ken

I've taken apart the stock filter. It's very well made.

i'll put my .02$ in, Fram = The Suck... as my 4g63 would collapse them under hard pulls at the track(after cutting one open).. I switched to K&N and never looked back. On the 8, i'll ether use K&N or OEM (mitsubishis oem for the eclipse's are a joke lol)
