air bag sensor

can anyone help me with my query, iv'e got two rx8's one that had been hit
on the r/h/f and one that had a major engine fire .The airbags on the damaged car triggered but the burn one had no airbags triggered. I have swopped over the airbags from one to the other and also swapped over the main module. The question is:- is there any way of telling whether the impact sensor on the front would have been damaged (resistance etc) and if it is found to be damaged could I use a safety belt sensor? or would they be more sensitive to side impact?
