Cool Advice on RX8 about to buy

Hi Everyone

Going to pick my 2003 RX8 on Saturday and thought you guys would be the ones to ask. (after all you are partly responsible, that 'little things' thread definitely pushed me over the edge).

I just want a heads up on basic stuff like I'm told it takes unleaded petrol but wanna hear from the experts (ie you guys, actual owners). And any info that you think would be good to know going in, unfortunately I'm not much of a tech head when it comes to cars but this incredible awesome car making me want to learn everything I can about it.

Also I'm in South Africa, and have not seen any other RX8's around are their any owners on this forum living in Johannesburg?

Thanks guys

Read stuff on the forum as if it was a textbook, some good info here. Check if recalls were done, a compression test would be nice too. Im guessing theres a dealer for servicing your car and warrantly issues in ur area? Better start becoming a "tech head" considering its not a "regular" car.

Aight, dude, I'll start you off. The 8, is a never ending flow of needed information. But that is part of the fun. You are out of country, and I know ya'll ain't got many 8's out there so try and make friends with us US peeps. We have the most 8's so have the most information on what happens. Plus, the search bar is your best friend. Good luck dude, I hope you enjoy. It is prob the best decision you will ever make

Thanks boizart1 I'm having it fully checked by the dealership with a rotary specialist before taking ownership. Will been going through the threads quite a bit already, the problem is they make the waiting more painful ;-)
Hell of a username xun4gvn4everx, will definitely be trying to make you guys in this site my new best friends because the way things are looking this car will be the love of my life (don't tell my girlfriend I said that :P ).

Sorry to bug guys but what is 'TSB' apparently it's important to check and I can only see this as an anagram in discussions

Keeping the car cool is your main concern.

They don't like weather that is 100 degrees plus.

what is 'TSB'
Technical Service Bulletin. The dealer you've gone to should have the relevant ones.

The North American ones have been on line at finishlineperformance.com. Last time I looked they redesigned the site and the path to them was gone. Hopefully that will come back. Because they've been available they get a lot of discussion here. A handful refer to recalls, most refer to how to fix problems that happen to some cars, and some are kind of extensions to the shop manual.

Recommended petrol (which we call gas) is premium. We can, in principle, use regular and that's always a discussion point. Unleaded here because of clean air laws and the use of a catalytic converter. If yours has a cat, then definitely unleaded.

Hope you can last until Saturday. Have fun!

Ken

Dude, I hope you get a good deal. I am in Midrand.

RX8s are not ubiquitous in South Africa, probably because Mazda never marketed the car here at all (not a single advert or promo). But, I have seen quite a number, and there are other members on this forum too (like NVGOR8 , With, my memory is a little rusty). Haven't heard from them in a while though.

Hey bro, nice to see another South African here ;-)

I'm getting the 2003 Hi Power for R140 000 from a Honda dealership if you can believe it ;-) was a trade in apparently.

Well on the upside it makes us look unique and connoisseurs.

Shot for the heads up man.
