Husband: "Lets buy a sports car! I feel like reliving my youth"
Wife: "That sounds like an exelent idea!, just dont get one with bad gas mileage"
husband: "All sports cars get 'bad' gas mileage, its because they play soo hard"
Wife: "Surely we can get a nice BMW, or Lexus sports car that gets 35mpg"
Husband: "heheheh" :women:.
Husband: "Lets get the Mazda RX8, its has 4 usable seats, the inside is nice, and its cost effective too. It looks amazing, its comfortable, its unique, and very smooth. They last a long time, and its fast enough, and faster around corners. Its just amazing over all".

Wife: "Wow I love it, but does it get 35mpg?"
Husband: "Ok, lets get a honda econobox".

Which one of you guys is the wife?
and who is the husband? You going to listen to the wifes on this forum?

Good, leave!

I'm sure soon you'll be on the Prius forum complaining about the lack of torque/hp and cornering.

I never said I like American built V-8s, I was only making a comparison that yes, this car, while having many desirable qualities, sucks gas as badly as V-8s; and without the torque or horsepower...

Comparing the rotary to V8, V6, hybid etc. etc. is taking it out of context. I see the whole pkg. Where else are you going to find a quality comfortable good looking, practicle 4 seater fun sportscar like this for $25k. It's also a great cruiser and touring roadcar. The crappy factory emission flash is whats dooming some Rx8s. The recall should address the few bad cats, fouled plugs, flooding, blown engines bad gas mileage. I can out perform most V8,V6 cars because thy are fat pigs with poor handling. I prefer the high rpm performance and smoothness of the rotary. If I compare my 8 to anything it will be another rotary. To date it is the best rotary ever made. If I wanted good gas mileage I'd buy an accord. Who cares if the 8 gets the same mileage as V8. A V8 sportscar (corvette) that handles like this would cost thousands more. It's a perfect engine for an afforable sportscar. I guess it all depends on what turns you on.

after reading this thread, I'm reminded of why I left the first time.. I'm not referring to the post above, or want to point out anyone specifically..

But, man, some RX-8 owners or fans are just dicks. Also, why is it that some people on forums think they know everything and are so easy to make rude comments? I feel like I'm listening to children sometimes here. (If you read through this thread, I'm sure you could spot who I'm talking about)...

Being passionate about a car is one thing, but people sometimes forget to place personal tact before it. Reminds me of those religiously fanatic Apple owners... grrrr.......

Then check out the RX7 forum or SVT Cobra forum. They are the most rude car forums I've seen. This forum isn't as bad as some. There's alot of good info here for owners, just got to be patient and pick out what you need. Always use the search first or you will get flamed.

I'll vouch for that hands down.

Even though I still own one, I don't even bother going back there anymore because of how everyone talks so condescendingly down on every person that posts anything, reguardless of if it was a good point or not. If you think this place is slamming people, check out some of the more crude boards...they aren't all that hard to find.

At least they try and help around here.

I'm SO tired of reading about the 8's poor mileage, disappointing horsepower and total lack of torque. Wake up, people—you cannot fairly discuss the rotary engine without discussing the car that's wrapped around it—they're inseparable.. Without the car's unique feel and great handling—which is very much a result of the miniscule Renesis—there'd be NO POINT in having a rotary engine. Because the rotary will always lose out on mpg, hp and torque. Nature of the beast. Those of us who love the 8 (about 98% of the world's auto journalists—about 62% of the people on this forum) feel the unremarkable mpg, hp and torque numbers are a small—yes, small—price to pay for the 8's sublime feel and handling.

This "quality beyond the numbers" thing is nothing new. On paper, VHS was better than Betamax (cheaper, longer recording time), but in real life Betamax was better (picture quality, size of cassette, sound quality). Anyone who had one will tell you that. Same with Windows vs. Apple: Windows does everything a Mac does, only the Mac does it better. Not always faster, not cheaper, just… better (more intuitive, better design, fewer mouse clicks, everything in "human" English, etc, etc). If I were buying a DVR I'd get a TiVo. Yes, the cable company DVR does almost everything TiVo does, but TiVo does it better. Into motorcycles? On paper, Harley's are easily outperformed by most any modern sportbike. But modern sportbikes don't have that "po-ta-to, po-ta-to, po-ta-to" feel and sound.

It's all about quality of the experience, people. How do you measure that? You can't! Read "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance". That's what the 8 is about.

I’ve never checked the mileage in my 8 when it gets low on fuel I stop at one of those fueling stations you know the places with the big signs and all kind of food for sale I fill her up and enjoy I owned a 72’ Cuda as a kid put a four speed in her that car had a 4 barrel for you kids that a carburetor pretty much a crudely tuned fuel pump that dumps fuel into the motor as demanded by the driver.
I think that it is so cool that I can disable the traction control lock the wheels rev to 8 grand drop the clutch and instant u turn just like the old days in the Cuda’all with 2 rotors and a fraction of the fuel and so many amenities that the modern sports car offers if you have to think of the fuel cost of this extremely efficient hot rod of today’s era you should immediately find someone like myself who would love to own a car like this hand over the keys get the cash and a new hybrid or a moped if your upside down on a loan the sales man convinced you was a good deal.
Nice thing is when your old and gray you can tell the kids you owned a sports car that ran on fossil fuels back in the day look at history kids look at cruise ins there you will find old guys with three deuces , dual quads six packs blowers and big grins if your car doesn’t make you grin find a new car
I would like to thank you for warning people that can’t afford this car to steer clear it just gives us old guys a shot at a better deal I was so happy to find a 14000 mile 04 custom ordered and loaded by an enthusiast then garage kept for 22k he’s stepping up to a Lotus lucky guy.
To tell you the honest to god truth I can’t wait to have an excuse to tear out a motor tranny or rear dif these cars are so nicely engineered in such a small package it’s incredible

The old guy
