RECALL and FREE Factory-Scheduled Maintenance

So a few of you will be upset that I didn't do a search before posting this thread, but I am okay with that.

QUESTION: How does the recall affect those that have the Free Factory-Scheduled Maintenance (First Four Years/50,000 Miles). Will the "FREE" maintenance be extended too? I ordered my 8 in Feb 03 and recieved it Aug 03 (3 years now). I only have 24,000 miles on it. Powertrain Waranty Extension (understood), FREE Factory Scheduled Maintenance (not sure).

recall

I have an 04 with free service for 50k. My 8 has 58.9k and it was taken in for the new engine recall. You are covered.

How in the hell do you have your car for 3 years and only have 24k on it, good lord, go drive her, right now. Just teasin ya, but anyways, I don't think that the free maintenance would be extended also, because it is a powertrain warranty extension. It probably would be nice though.

Car has probably online seen rain about 8 times and snow "only once". I travel a bit for work as well. I also work on it in my garage, so enough times it is not always put together. I absolutely love to drive her. I have a few mods on her but something my uncle told me when I was just a young kid. " I know how fast the car can go and what I can do with it, I have nothing to prove". " I would rather drive slower so I can be seen in the car I put together".

I think the "free maintenance" was offered to the folks who bought them as soon as they became available and under the "false" impression that the HP was higher than 238.

Am I right? If so, you bought yours after Mazda corrected their mistake.

I believe you are correct. I bought mine 02/04 after they corrected the horsepower figures and was not offered the free maintenance.

This is correct. I do not recall the exact details but I had a choice of getting all the money back I had deposited or keeping the car and getting the free maintenance and a 500 AMEX gift Card. It is obvious what I chose. I believe it was for any car that was delivered or ordered before 8/31/03.

What do you mean?, please explain.

Won't the recall take care of this issue if engine is replaced?

Low Miles, No Rain, No Snow and Occasional Spirited Driving does not equate to Carbon Build-up. I understand (i guess) what you mean by "baby" a new engine but from what I have read about this recall, it had something to do with the timing of fuel injected into the engine. I don't want to take this Thread off on another Topic and have you guys inform me on your perfect oppinions of what the recall's purpose is. My intent was to gain insight into the likelyhood of getting the Free maintenance extended as well as the Powertrain waranty.

the weather conditions you drive in have absolutly nothing to do with building up carbon in your engine. nor does carbon have anything to do with the recall.

babying the engine will cause you to build up carbon if you never open it up.

I've been wondering the same thing. It's sort of an interesting question because of the way that the free maintenance program offer was written. In the letter that they sent us, and yes I did keep it, it says, "Free scheduled maintenance for the balance of the factory warranty (48 months/ 50,000 Miles) AND a $500 ...". Seems to me that since the offer was for the balance of the factory warranty, which is parenthetically explained as the 48 month/ 50,000 mile one, that they should also extend the warranty. That's just my opinion. In the end it is Mazda's opinion that counts lest we should have to sue them.

Who Cares about driving it enough or not. The title of this thread is "RECALL and FREE Factory-Scheduled Maintenance". Focus! I'll ask you to please not clutter this thread with your topic. I trully want to know if anyone has a solid answer on the thread title.

OK, then talk to me because this interests me too. Personally, I believe that Mazda owes us maintenance for the balance of the warranty period, which is what I said in my last post back there a ways if you didn't see it. There are however two things that I need to do. One I need to read the owner's manual and see how the warranties are broken up in the book, which might kill my argument, and two, I need to wait for my recall letter to actually come before I contact Mazda and ask them for a representation that they will stand behind the meaning of their letter to us. It seems to me that the only representation that makes any difference in the representation of Mazda about this issue. What do you think?

Read the owner's manual? What a quaint idea.

The extended warranty is for power train only. At first I got excited about getting Roadside Assistance for an extra year, until I realized the power train warranty is different from the original four year warranty.

Isn't it though. I would also have just gone out and read the thing instead of talking about reading it except that my car is at the dealer at the moment being serviced. I can't wait to get it back too.

I was wondering if they broke the warranties out that way since it is pretty common practice. I still might try contacting Mazda just because the service program is all about the power train warranty since it is the power train that is being serviced. Thanks for the info though.

You're not going to get get an extension of the free scheduled maintenance, if that is what you were asking. It'll still be 48 months or 50k miles, whichever comes first. After that, you'll be paying for the scheduled maintenance.
