About to buy 07 rx8 new, What flash do I need??

PARDON the NOOB!!

I'm about to buy a 2007 Rx-8

My concerns are:

1. How can I be certain that they have updated the correct flash? And what is the current number/name of that flash? (This is the computer chip right??)

2. What object do you guys use to measure out your pre-mixes, and what pre-mix do the gurus tend to support? I put this in the gas tank right??

3. On average, am I accurate in my reading so far in that most of you are having to put oil in the car every 3k miles?

4. What are the implications on the longevity and performance if I find that my Rx8 is one of the ones that burns oil slow? Likewise, what are the performance/longevity implications if it burns oil fast?

5. I am a regular reader of these awesome forums, but it would take a millenium to read all the posts, SO PLEASE GIVE ME as much advice about the Rx-8 as possible!!! GIVE ME THE CRUCIAL info guys. WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?

The 2007s already come with the latest flash. It was only 2004 and 2005 models that were subject to updated software flashes.

Every time you change your oil, you should change the filter as well. Good practice. So, every 3-8k miles? Depends on how **** you are about your oil. I like to do 3k oil changes in my RX-7 as of now, but others do it at 6k.

6k doesn't sound too bad. not to start an absurdly long thread about oil, but is the general consensus to use the oil suggested in the manual? in other words, what do the majority of these members use?

It's been known that Synthetic oil has been used, and people usually stick with 5w20 oil. Can't go too wrong with it, I wouldn't think.

You will not need to worry about a flash with the 07. Depending on how much you will drive I used the 3k or 3 months to change oil. Check your oil every other fill up and top off as needed. A simple search on your questions will yield days worth of reading.

No need. Here's one:

After that thread, and others like it, do you really expect a consensus? :-)

You really do need to invest some of your own time reading the archives here. Some of us do respond to people asking for a spoon feeding, but all you get is the opinion of those who feel like answering at the time. Everything you've gotten here is good, but there are enough threads where the replies are rude or (even worse) seemingly civil but a crock. Spend time reading, and you get the straight collective wisdom of the site.

FWIW, I use 5w20 conventional oil, change every 3000 miles, and don't premix. But that's me.

Ken

Warranty Issue

Does anyone know if using premix voids the factory warranty? I will probably be at my dealer late this week and will ask then but am curious regarding how others have made out. - Jeff

I change every 5k miles .... because it's really easy to know when I need to change. 20,000 miles, 25,000 miles , 30,000 miles........ man they are adding up way too fast.

Also I chose Castrol syntec blend..... a compromise in the dino/synth oil wars.

Check your oil often and break her in as recommended.
