9000 RPM redline?

I was looking at the RX-8 RPM gauge, and the redline started at 8500 RPM. I thought this thing redlined at 9000?

I did notice though that from 8500-9000 that the Red color is of a lighter shade, and from 9000-10000 rpm its a darker Red. Any significance as to why that is?

Thanks!

most cars have a lighter red area close to the red line, to warn that you're gettin close i guess

...i thought the chime started at 8500 (hence the light red) and redline is at 9000, with fuel cut at 9250 or 9500... something like that (then again, i don't own this car).

buzzer/chime is at 8500 but I haven't had a chance to bounce off the fuel cutoff.

dude, i turned 20 like 2.5 months ago, i go to university, and i don't have rich parents who give handouts/spoil me. no, i'm not getting the car ... maybe in a long time. maybe.

it's my love of the wankel (or it's obsession with me?? see av-title) that keeps me here...

uh, sure, if i didn't have to worry about paying for school and had a $50/hr part time job, sane insurance rates, and a place to keep it (!), or something...

It's there. 9300 - 9500 is correct. You can ride it, too. And it's not fuel cut, but throttle cut. So no blasted apex seals, baby! :D

...there is one RX-7 enthusiast site which is called "beyond the redline", and is called so for a reason.
