So i just purchased my 2005 rx8. Used and as is. Im the third owner.

I was reading over this 8 year 100,000 miles warranty and it says:
To Get Warranty Service:
You must take your mazda Vehicle, along with your warranty information booklet and this addendum card. To the dealer.

When i purchased the car i didnt know this; and I did not recieve a warranty information booklet nor a addendum card.
If my engine was needed to be replaced under warranty because I donot have these two things will that cause an issue on my part in recieving the warranty replacement?

Also states: you must have mantenance records. What if you buy the parts from mazda but do the service yourself?

Please help. I bought a 2005 rx8 used. I have 108,000 miles on it now and had no idea about the extended warranty. I brought it to the Mazda dealer and asked them to perform a combustion test on it because im having problems with it starting back up after driving it for a while. They told me that they couldn't accurately perform a combustion test until they replaced my ignition coils, spark plugs, and wires. So they did the tune up, $1000.00 later, they told me I need a new motor because I have low combustion. Did I get totally screwed over? This car had it's motor replaced at 48,000 miles, so the new motor doesn't have much on it. Had anyone been through more than one motor and gotten help from Mazda? Thanks

I'm really interested in this too. I want to buy an RX8 that's under 8 years/100,000 miles, but not end up Mazda not wanting to replace my engine. Are maintenance records really mandatory?

Read through a lot of the thread. Very good information. "Varies from dealer to dealer" is the answer I got.

Lol, what if I just change my oil ONCE at the dealership and if I encounter a problem, and they ask for the records, I can just say "Yup!" Only one, with you guys.

Think they'll still deny anything?

Also, if I buy my car from an AUCTION, will that encounter any problems? Will they dislike that I bought it from a dealers auction through a dealer? One reason why I definitely won't have any of the maintenance records.

What part of "Varies from dealer to dealer" doesn't cover that?

There are tales here of people buying 8s with blown engines and getting warranty replacements with no prior records. There are also tales here of original owners with all the records being denied warranty service for trivial reasons.

One of the reasons aution prices are low is because the cars are pretty much as-is. If you're a dealer the good and bad deals average out over time. If you're not comfortable with risk don't gamble.

I purchased this car from the original owner about three years ago. I did a good deal of research on this website (evidently as a guest, as I found out today) about the warranty extension, and took my car in about two weeks ago.

I picked up the car today, reman engine and all, (yes I took the dealer dive and got the plugs, wires, and packs replaced). The car drives much more responsive.

Now, I am curious what to look for as far as sights/sounds/smells with the engine replacement. I drove to work tonight, and exiting the car it smelled a little sweet, so, (I looked under the hood and under the car - no signs), I will look more in the morning.

I do need to find a photo of a stock engine for a view under the hood, seems maybe a beauty cover might be missing, but not sure.

Sorry if this sounds cloudy, have been in bed with the flu for four days.

Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, engine was four months from end of warranty, and 84,000 miles.

Have a 2005 RX8 with 80k miles. Compression test shows compression under 6. Car has trouble restarting when warm. Would a replacement engine be covered by the extended warranty.

I am thinking about buying a 2011 R3 soon. I asked the dealership if the 8yr, 100k mile warranty included that vehicle too and they couldn't give me a solid answer. All they could tell me was about the powertrain warranty. Just wanted to make sure before making the move on the R3.

Go to: Mazdausa.com -> Owners menu, Warranty option. Pull this up on your smartphone or print it out if the dealer really doesn't know what they are selling.

Mazda in North America had to offer this extended warranty for emission reasons, simply if an engine fitted in any new car can not go the distance then it has to be repaired or renewed..it was for emissions, no other reason.

The reputation thing (for Mazda) is a bonus, if Mazda were being 'a great company' then this warranty would have been extended worldwide, but it was not.

Having said that, depending on 'where' you live and if you know your local consumer laws and standards you can get quite a bit of 'good will' out of Mazda after the factory warranty has expired.

does anyone know of anything that would negate the extended warrenty. I have a BHR Ignition and a catless flow master exhaust. its a 08. no porblems engine wise. but ive always been worried about them saying well you have this and we wont fix it for you. PEWPEWPEW

My car was made in april 2005, am i passed warranty? Has 116.000km.

The production date isn't the part that matters. The date that the warranty starts is the in-service date. Usually you can get this easily from the carfax (or similar) that you hopefully got when you got the car. The alternate for-sure way is to call MNAO, give them your vin, and they can tell you the details.

For example, my 2005 had an in-service date in September of 2006, so the 8 year mark would expire in September of 2014 (I blew past the 100k mark though)


Every factory warranty for every car out there works exactly the same way. This isn't treated special.

No.

8yrs or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.


It's the same as any other car warranty out there in how it's managed, and how being over either point means no coverage.

Absolutely replace replace the coils, for if you don't; you run the chance of damaging your 2rd engine. There 4 coils (2 per chamber) and if one starts to go bad, you may not notice. Also, avoid using the car for short trips, but then again don't let it sit for long periods (3 plus months) make it your primary driving vehicle. Good Luck

I just moved to SLC in July, one week after I got here all hell broke loose with my 07 Rx-8, searched for any and all ansewers to the question of how do I salvage the situation since my ride just rolled past the 70,000 mile warranty and was guessing that I blew an Apex seal in rotor 1... well, thanks to this forum I learned that the dealership in SLC not only honors the extened 100,000 warrany on engine core parts and service but they also have a military discount of 10% which will save me a crap ton of money for all the NOT warrantied parts that will evenually needs fixing. My ride is getting fixed and is covered! WOOOOOOOOOO! would of cost me thousands! getting it back on Tuesday, and will be looking to do some needed space cruising... JFYI to members in the SLC area, the extended warranty is for real... so if your core gives you trouble, you should be covered...all they needed from me was my VIN, Thanks SLC Mazda! :Peace:
