Nice!

Go48 05-30-2008 03:39 PM

First I've seen of this. Did you get a mailing with this information? If not, what is the source of this information? TIA

CyberPitz 05-30-2008 03:45 PM

Wow, that's awesome.

SilverEIGHT 05-30-2008 03:45 PM

A Mazda Service Manager who at this point in time will remain nameless.

elysium19 05-30-2008 03:48 PM

This IS awesome. Above all else, it's really good piece of mind for the next few years, I'm approaching the 60K miles mark, and was worried that if the engine lost compression and went kaput, I'd be on my own. Great to know....

I guess they are planning to get good use out of that new rotary rebuilding factory in VA....

Shoafb 05-30-2008 03:51 PM

Wow, a much better plan then was intitially brought out. Good news.

Soapflake 05-30-2008 03:53 PM

I keep checking my calendar to make sure its not April 1st...

kersh4w 05-30-2008 04:02 PM

i heard this from another trusted source a few weeks back.

its not fake.

ho1ming 05-30-2008 04:15 PM

Nice!!!!

RotaryP7 05-30-2008 04:17 PM

Do brakes count inside the warranty?

rx8convert22 05-30-2008 04:36 PM

I applaud Mazda on this one! I called a dealership and said they haven't seen it in writing yet but at the last meeting they had with Mazda confirmed this news was coming. I don't know if many companies would do this for their customers.

Jasonawojo 05-30-2008 04:37 PM

Hehe, extensions extensions. It's not like the general public has nervous feelings about the rotary or anything..! :P

Very respectable move. :)

delhi 05-30-2008 04:46 PM

Must the weak US models. Because we got nothing in Canada and RoW!

Conundrum 05-30-2008 04:49 PM

What da heck!!?? Why the hell did I pay for the 6 yr/ 100K extended... stupid me...:banghead:

alz0rz 05-30-2008 04:53 PM

zeru57 05-30-2008 05:07 PM

If True, this is ONE HELLUVA sign of good faith.

FWIW, your warranty, even if it is powertrain only still has value due to your tranny, rear diff, and "accessory" components of the engine. Additionally, Mazda may acutally mail you outa small check as refund on the "double coverage". I have seen ti before.

not really.. this extension applies to only the rotary core/seals/gaskets.. so strictly the block..

your warranty I'm assuming is bumper-to-bumper.. which covers EVERYTHING on the car.

My 8 is 2004 with 81,000 miles.....................So does this mean my RX8, even though it is currently out of warranty but under 100,000 miles, now has coverage for those parts?

So if an Apex seal fails....it is covered?

CyberPitz 05-30-2008 05:44 PM

You're under the 8 year/100k mile warranty.

To be named later 05-30-2008 05:54 PM

Barring a knock on the door from Ed McMahon (holding a big check) this is the best news I have heard all day.

:)

I am not an engine guy........Rotary Engine Core, how often is there a problem with the core? Or the rotary Housing? Or Internal Parts, Internal Seals and Gaskets?

All the horror stories we've heard about engines failing........is it these parts that have failed?

CyberPitz 05-30-2008 05:59 PM

The main part that fails, from what I'm noticing, are seals blowing. The best way the housing can go bad is if the engine is starved of oil, or if the apex seal blows, carving up the housing....Most cases, the housing should be OK to save.

zoom44 05-30-2008 06:03 PM

thank him for us silver eight and thank you:)

fahrfegneugen 05-30-2008 06:05 PM

Has anyone telephoned to verify this, I think I will call my servie rep. This is freaking awesome info!

stickie!

fahrfegneugen 05-30-2008 06:13 PM

I think so, I have sent an email to Mazda to verify one more time.

Detrich 05-30-2008 06:43 PM

if this is true it's great news. :)

zeru57 05-30-2008 06:48 PM

Yes, thanks to you both.

Elara 05-30-2008 06:48 PM

W00t! thanks for the great info! I'm about to 80k and was starting to get a little antsy since nothing has really gone wrong, but this makes me feel MUCH better!

To be named later 05-30-2008 06:50 PM

Again, I'm not really a car guy, and going from no warranty at all to some warranty is better.........but how exactly would this cover me? What could go wrong with an Engine Core, Rotary Housing and Internal Parts, Internal Seals and Gaskets, and what would be covered??

Does this cover Apex seals, loss of compression, most engine failures, etc, etc?

CyberPitz 05-30-2008 06:55 PM

Anything within the Rotor Housings is being covered. The Core is the entire engine block, if I'm not mistaken. So if you blow an Apex seal, and it scrapes your housing all to hell, and it was not do to your lack of putting oil in the car...chances are, it's all replaceable.

SilverEIGHT 05-30-2008 06:59 PM

I'm looking forward to some of you getting a confirmation on my info. So far this is all I have to go on. So if this blows up, I'm appologizing in advance!

"To be" someone will address your question, I'm sure. I'm just not knowledgeable enough to give you a breakdown.

working on it. cant do it directly myself now so have to "farm" it out:)i heard about the possibility of this awhile ago so i dont doubt it. let you know soonest

rglbegl 05-30-2008 07:45 PM

Does this go retro back to the people who already had to have an engine core replaced? Do they get reimbursed

xsnipersgox 05-30-2008 08:14 PM

omg woot.

REsuperD 05-30-2008 08:33 PM

i read somewhere else on the forum from a canadian guy that something like this is being done for the canadian cars...

so this is probably for reals. and if so, super AWESOME, mazda!

fahrfegneugen 05-30-2008 08:45 PM

Okay, Mazda just confirmed this in an email with me. This is so f@#$# awesome! I wonder if it is retroactive...? I think they are doing it now because they are seeing how these engines are failing with age, something they couldn't tell a couple of years ago when they did the 6/60 extension.

"Hello Alexandr,

Thanks for contacting Mazda.

The Rotary Engine Core Warranty has been extended to 96 months/80,000 miles- on your 2004 RX-8, VIN# JM1FEXXXXXXXx.

Again, thank you for contacting Mazda.

Regards,

Diana M.
Customer Assistance Specialist, E-Business "

She says 8/80, didn't the original post say 8/100? We need to investigate maybe...

SilverEIGHT 05-30-2008 08:56 PM

Thanks fahrfegneugen. Mine was a copy paste and yes, it was 100K. Still needing a verification on the 100 before we can call this legit.

tiltmode43 05-30-2008 08:59 PM

BULLSHIT

I purchased the 8 yr 100,000mi warranty because of possible long term problems

fahrfegneugen 05-30-2008 09:00 PM

Ohh, sweet, you work at the dealer?, I thought you just found it somewhere. Nvm.

Well now it is double checked :) It was kinda too good to be true, lol. How should we verify the 100 thing?

^Your tranny is still covered though in that extra warranty, so that is good :)

tiltmode43 05-30-2008 09:03 PM

Yeah I suppose

Still, kind of upsetting as the engine was the reason I got it. The higher the fail rate the happier I got knowing the extended warranty was worth it. Maybe I should start beating on the tranny to get my money's worth. Just kidding you corporate mazda spies ;)

fahrfegneugen 05-30-2008 09:08 PM

Yeah, I have a brand new tranny. You might have a chance...

Guess time will tell. Someone will ferret it out. You confirmed the 80 now let's see who confirms the 100,000 if in fact it is true. Hell, even if it was 80, that would be good but 100... just damn!

Jedi54 05-30-2008 09:22 PM

whoa Silver, this sounds awesome.

Razz1 05-30-2008 09:30 PM

I wish it were true.

lesper4 05-30-2008 09:47 PM

i am waiting to see if it is will be true!?
