TX 8 problem :(

Hey everyone,

About 3 months ago, my 8 started giving me issues with low idling and the occasional shutting off at stops.

So I changed my plugs, and notice an improvement,

Then I changed my wires a few days later (ordered)
and the 8 got worst, car turned off alot more often, and notice power problems in 2nd and 3rd gear.

So then I changed my ignition coils, yesterday,
my 8 turned off on my 4 times in one trip yesterday, and hardly any power in any gear. I noticed that when cold, the car runs ok, but if i punch it at all, at any time during the trip, the problem returns there after, shutting off at every stop.

If i had to guess, the wires seem to be the issue, but is there a way to test these before buying another $80 set? I dont have much cash to put in any more so I dont want to get stuck with 2 sets of wires and still have the problem.

Has anybody heard of this? or has it happened to you? could it be something else?

I love my 8 but it is become un-drivable

any input would help,

thanks,

Mazda Rx8 2005 AT ti grey

Have you gotten all the recalls/TSB's done?

Sounds like a transmission issue.

CAT:
im not sure how to check my cat, somebody told me that if it starts to smell like sulfar or burning ***, than my cat would be the problem.

RECALLS:
Last recall work done was in 07, i hadnt been notified of any others, where can i check that?

Tranny:
Transmission has been leaking fluid, i noticed it is leaking around the transmission oil pan. Would this be an issue? I checked the fluid and it is ok. But it does show that it is leaking very slowly.

I'd say you may have a tranny issue from the sounds of it. I take the engine isn't sputtering or anything while running. If so it sounds like the torque converter or other internals of the tranny could be bad.

If there is a power loss and stalling then it is not the tranny.

Have you tried swapping the old wires back to see what happens?

I threw away the wires for some dumb reason,

I think its the cables also, i made an appt, with mazda for tomorrow morning, but they are gonna charge me $94 to do a diagnostics check.

Any one know of a cheap way to check if my cables are bad?

How can i tell if the CAT is bad?

I still love my 8

Out of curiosity, what wires did you replace your old ones with?

Angry

UPDATE,

After two days in the shop, mazda tells me my car needs a new engine. and it will be covered by mazda!

THe cat was given weird error codes, along with random misfires.
Also the engine had no compression.

They also tell me that the coils i put in where showing that 3 of them were not working properly. so for an extra $275 they would replace them.

I will be without my 8 for about 3weeks.

Well, look at it this way: You're paying $275 for a new engine and labor.
