70 000km and still going ...
I just did the service for 70 000 km and the dealer used something called RTG to clean the injectors and lines. I don't really know what else got cleaned but the end result is smoother feel to the engine. Idle is clean, revs are clean. Really difficult to explain in words.
I have redlined the car probably three of four times in its four year history.
A few years ago I changed the radiator fan, thanks to construction sand which found its way into its moving parts. Otherwise the engine, coils, wires, the whole shebang is still as it was when the car left the factory.
I get 500km before I have to fill up (that is, after I have pushed as far as is comfortable with the fuel light on).
I top up with Castrol Magnatech and it is usually after 5000km (10 fill ups) but I check the oil regularly in between and only top up when it reaches the first marker on the dipstick.
During he last service, the dealer put Edge 5W30. I will drain it out soon and put Magnatech, our climate is warm and snow is a luxury (had it three times in my lifetime, and it was a news item).
Next year, the service plan will run out, the warranty will run out and I will finish paying for the car. Hopefully it will hang n until then. Also, Mazda South Africa has ceased all sales of the RX8 here so, this is it for us as far as the rotary is concerned. I am keeping it for good.
Almost forgot, the ECU software was never updated in the car for four years. I had to specifically ask for it, it was done so I must be honest, part of the smooth ride could be due to it.
At this point, I can't complain at all. My only concern is the DSC. I have never tested if it really works and I was one in a serious hurry and accelerated hard in a corner, the car fishtailed (or almost fishtailed) I had to get off the gas and correct it. When I test drove a 330 BM we had to remove the fuse on the stability control to make it behave like that. So, that is on my list, but not for this year.
Lastly, the Mazda was my fourth car, I got sick of the others within 2 years. This one, I probably will never.
I wish you all Rotary people out there, the nice ones and the flamers, to enjoy your car.
I don't check posts a lot, so I will check this after a few weeks.
Regards

Hey man, hope your 8 lasts you many more years. One suggestion, try redlining your 8 once a day or everytime you drive it. It will help keep carbon from building up which leads to early engine failure.
That's unfortunate that SA banned RX8's there, will be tough to find someone to work on your car if something happened to it
