49,583mls:flooded!

I have defended this car from day one on this forum, now two and a half years, 49,583 miles later, it finally got me, my car flooded. Nothing more to do except wait for roadside to come haul it off. Of all times for it to happen, my mother was using it because I needed to travel in a car that got more than 4 miles to the gallon!! Her v-6 gets 28, and you can bet it will never leave you stranded! I think its time to shop around, I am throwing in the towel. I love this car, but its not just me anymore, I need a reliable car. Goodluck to you all.

exactly your mother was using it she probably doesnt know the shut off procedures turned it off cold like u would never do without revving the engine and flooded it good thing is u have 400 miles left on the warranty u get new spark plugs free the better 1's and hell try and get new brakes and battery while u are at it.

msrecant 07-07-2006 11:01 AM

Just curious. Were you careful about never cutting the engine off cold?

Look, you can debate "rotary procedures" all day long. I have been on this forum from day one, and am well aware of the kinks with this car, but the bottom line is you pay alot of money for a car and you expect it to at least crank. It is not reasonable to expect every one that drives this car to be rotary savy, even if you inform them of procedures, cutting the car off cold will happen. You are correct, I do not want this car anymore. Imagine how you would feel about a fairly new car that left someone you cared about stranded. Defending this car on this issue is not reasonable.

Aseras 07-07-2006 11:43 AM

god this planet is going to SUCK when everything is idiot proof and we have to live un bubbles and have warning labels on everyhting that read aloud to you in 77 diffrent languages in case you can't read.

greene76 07-07-2006 11:44 AM

Nice grammer JCT, how stupid is yu?

vapourit 07-07-2006 11:44 AM

TSB? did you do it? If not = lazy and = you deserve it

greene76 07-07-2006 11:46 AM

Thats it for me, have fun sitting in your car waiting for it to warm up!

Everone I care about that has access to my 8 knows about cold engine shut down. Also the tow truck was invented before the RX-8, other cars break down and strand people. Your human, it's ok to admit to mistake.

if y ou been here since day 1 (i guess you mean since the website was first created) then you should of known about the flood issues with rotary. its not like something new. really please get rid of the 8, be one less thread about why i hate the 8 so much. really if i hated the 8 and was going to get rid of it . think ill come here and make a thread about it? no these bye bye threads so gxy. sorry that your having issues atm. but these drama queen threads are just old.

btw dude im so JDM!

oh and also. there is a mercedes that cost 1mil and the person who bought it only drove it 5 times till it wont start up any more. and guess what mercedes will not fix the car.

My advice:

1. Wait until you calm down and can look reasonably at the situation and decide if what truly is a minor inconvenience is worth ditching a car you enjoy to drive.

and if not 1. then:

2. Wash the sand out of your vagina and worry about something that matters :wavey:

DARKMAZ8 07-07-2006 11:52 AM

bye

daisuke 07-07-2006 11:54 AM

Instead of bashing you for what you're saying, and I think you have a valid point, let me point out that there are other cars out there with much worse problems that can happen. It flooded, sure... but at least you're not having a blown head gasket, a bent rod, transmission failure or any of the other wonderful and far more expensive problems that other cars are subject to. And with the TSBs this should never happen again either.

gas mileage is therefore your only problem and only a new car will help you with that, just don't get a grand prix, 3 times bigger with a v-6 but gets only 20 mpg as well.

Smoker 07-07-2006 12:08 PM

Calm down bud, like you said, you love and defended for this car since Day One and you are fully informed about when and how will the engine can get flooded. So dont let the frustration of a car breakdown turned into a hatred for the RX-8. Take a deep breathe, read those R&T RX-8 reviews again, watch the Top Gear video one more time and you'll feel much better.

Frankly, given that you've like this car for so long and got so angry of it because of just one incident exactly shows how much you really love it inside. Think about it Bud.

good advice, i was thinking the same thing. its okay to want something else, but i have a hunch that after this whole thing blows over, youll want your 8 back. maybe when you get in that rental car, and you realize that driving most cars just isnt as fun. good luck.

limepro 07-07-2006 12:13 PM

get the toyota prius it gets lots of mpg and can beat a ferrari enzo 0-6

whens the last time teh plugs were changed?

Trekk 07-07-2006 12:19 PM

Does the deflooding procedure not work sometimes? I just dont get how the car could flood so bad it needs to be taken to a dealer to get fixed. Seems like the rotors would just paddle the gas out of the exhaust.

HolyCross05 07-07-2006 12:25 PM

Have fun with the reliability of your next car

wow that's the perfect summation of whats happening in this country, amen brotha!

What ever happend to "if you don't like it get the fuck out" motto of the united states? Now billions of dollars and millions of man hours are wasted trying to please "everyone".

On a side note to the person that had the flood after almost 50K miles, sorry to hear it man, if you dont like the care trade it in, but dont bash it. Yes our car has quirks, but I like to think of our car as mildly exotic in a few ways.... and anything that's different and/or rare needs to be treated differently. You wouldn't expect a Ferrari to be as reliable as a Volvo would you, even though it costs assloads more?
