I disagree. The 8 with the sport package out handles the FD IMO. I own both.

dmorales - Im surprised you own the car and you don't know if it needs a rebuild. Didn't you look into that before purchasing a rotary motor. After the first month I figure you would have known wether it needs it or not lol. No i'm just kidding it's all cool, i'm sure somebody on this forum knows tho. I'm just curious if it needs the rebuild, anybody??
I am more than familiar with rotary engines, in fact, I've had more knowledge of rotaries than probably 90% of people here who bought thier rx-8. Granted most of he people on this forum now have learned, or already knew.

You need to understand that this Renesis is very different than previous rotary engines. Do you think in 1993 when they first started selling FD's they knew that there would be excessive wear on seals or cooling problems from the FI? Probably not. I would have figured Mazda figured out how to make it powerful, and reliable. But time is what tells.

I can only tell you my experience, and that from which others have written on this forum, and I've never heard of anyone with over 100k miles. I've never heard of someone needing a rebuild simply because of normal wear. (Except in cases where parts were probably already defective.)

I own both, too. There's no way that as fine a car the 8 is that it's in the same league handling-wise with the 3rd gen. Maybe if your FD is riding on blown shocks and all-season crap from some subpar tire.
