The price differential to me is the biggest factor. You can get an 8 for $8k off MSRP at the end of the year. That basically puts it in a different price class than the Z.

As far as rarity, I have seen MAYBE 5 other 8s in ONE YEAR in Michigan.

For a non-exotic, it does not get much more rare than that.

I see 15 Mustangs a day, 15 corvettes a week, and about 10 350Zs a week.

And it is pleasant how many other sports car owners wander over to talk cars - regardless of the cost or modifications - and leave saying "You know my next one might be an 8!"

This is in interesting thread for me. I had a 350Z then moved on to a G35 Sedan 5AT for practicality purposes. But the AT sucked all the fun out of the car. Now I'm thinking about getting an 8 within the next 6 months. I like seeing you all compare the two because I LOVED that Z. I miss it everyday.

Indeed it is very harsh. I bought my Z in LA then drove it straight home to Portland. My dad came along to help me get it home. For all his help I told him he could take the car anytime he wanted, but because of the stiff ride he never stepped near the car again.

Yea i was thinking about trading my Z for an 8 cause' i really don't care for speed much...would rather prefer looks.
I really like the 8's look and the interior is nice, much better than the Z but then again the Z is an all out sport car....speed is what matter not interior.
If it's not one thing its another....i'll let ya'll know if i ever trade my Z for an 8.

^used '05 8 for $20k, go FI (supercharger), you get all the speed you need, for as much as a sellout Z.

rx-8 is only going to become faster when they figure out how to master the in-flow. IE Turbo and superchargers. But a Z will never be able to live up to the rx-8 handling capibilities.

that would be the 240 Z. then the 260 Z and the 280 Z.

Yeah the 240Z, 260Z and the 280 Z are the only true Z cars to wear the "Z" emblem. Out of my 3 previous Z cars, (79'280Z,86 TurboZ , 94TTZ Stage III) I loved my 79 Z the most! It was like the RX-8 , it handled really well, good power to boot and loads of fun to drive. Its was focused on sport driving and it showed!

My 94TTZ stage III was stupid fast , but was heavy and not so nimble or stable in the corners,once you past 400 crank HP in a TTZ, suspension mods are a must! A great strait line top end runner(after 100 she was a beast!) , and a beautiful head turner , but that was it.

My 86 turbo was nice, to soft though, loved taking it on long trips! All of them were great in there own way, not so fond of the 350Z as the 350Z reminds me of a Japanese Mustang for America. Too many and not so unique anymore...

Hopefully the revised 2007 Z with the new VQ35HR motor(350+HP, :fingersx: ) will change things up a bit. Hopefully Nissan will make the 4 gen Z a little more appealing to the eye instead of the happy jeally bean look we have now.Only one can hope....... :mdrmed:

Speaking of nissan Top Secret just prepped a light weight R32 Skyline GTR with VQ35 its making 450hp...Crazy thing is thats ready available power because it's n/a and that makes it a volatile beast on the track (plus it still retains its awd platform), things bad ass...

I myself own a FD and might have a alilttle goodie coming pretty soon, hint hint a big snail and im not talking about one that sits in a cage in your house ; )

Fanboy? No, you've got it all wrong. Me, I don't go lurking on 350Z boards hoping to find evidence that the RX-8 is a better or worse performer; I don't hold the inferiority complex that Z drivers do. As far as sports cars go, I wouldn't classify either car as such; just that, the 8 happens to have better performance characteristics than Nissan's flagship truck, err car.

I still agree, great choice with the RX8. One day me too! But I can't help but respond to a few of these quotes.

You know how you guys with RX8's get sick of hearing, "Yeah, the RX8 is great, but it's got no power"? As a Z owner, that's how I feel when I hear this, "350Z reminds me of a Japanese Mustang".

Hundreds of years ago, theologians got into heated debates about how many angels could dance on the head of a pin. Apparently, the spirit of those theologians lives today in many people on this forum.

Neither the Z nor the 8 is the end-all of all sports cars, but neither is any other car in existence. Both the Z and the 8 are excellent cars for what they do. Whichever someone chooses is simply personal preference.

I happen to prefer the 8 because a) the styling is more subtle, but still striking; b) the car is more practical (4 seats, for example); c) the ride is much smoother; and, d) the car is not ubiquitous like the Z (I saw 4 Zs within a 15-mile stretch of interstate yesterday).

Frankly, I'm glad there are excellent sports cars from which to choose at reasonable prices.
